hi guys
i am new to germany but not to this forum. i have been reading a lot of advice given here before I moved to germany. After coming here, when i re-read the various posts, it appears that majority of the english speaking population is in munich and rest of the germany is actually deprived of the pleasure of good ol english. well, are there more of you guys in Mülheim an der ruhr or the surrounding areas (düsseldorf, essen, duisburg etc). though i have many colleagues who speak english (actually the official language at my work place is english), but not many with whom i can hang out with, especially on the weekends. everybody seems to be busy with his/her own life. Not always, but sometimes i do get bored and want to go out and visit different places, but lack of company is a big deterrant. any advice, offers for joining a particular group trip/excursion, fun things to do etc are highly appriciated

welcome to TT and Germany. Good news for you I live in Bottrop(next door to Oberhausen+ Essen) which is round about 15 mins away. I used to live in Essen not far from the main train station.

Hi Phoenix, I'm an old gadgey ( 69 ) living in Schönebeck, Essen. If you feel the inclination we can meet up for a cuppa' and a chat sometime.

what's the story here? It seems very quiet in NRW around Essen, Bottrop, Düsseldorf? Hey folks have you all moved to Munich?

I am up for a get together in the Essen area sometime. Are there any regular meetups in Essen? Or does everyone just go to the Muelheim events?

If you are interested in books and book-related discussions (accompanied by an alcoholic beverage or two) then you are more than welcome to come to the next
English Book Club meeting. That is the only upcoming meetup (for English speakers)
that I know of in Essen. There is also an English
Social Club in Mülheim which seems to have quite regular meetings. If neither of these groups sound appealing to you then you could always organise some kind of get-together yourself. Just nominate a bar/restaurant/cinema/bowling alley/whatever, a date and a time, advertise it here on TT and wait to see who turns up. Easy.

I'm from Witten but my son, 20 years old lives in Muelheim. He's a quiet hardworking chap. He gets a bit bored on his days off and would probably welcome the chance to speak a bit of English
