What are the odds of bringing our "Souvenirs" from Amsterdam into Munich without winding up in a castle prison basement? We are taking a train from Amsterdam to Brussels, then flying from Brussels to Munich? how vigourous are the customs agents in Germany in dealing with travelers within the Euro union? I'd hate to get drunk without any shrooms or Herb

No experience with flying, but it's fairly simple to do on a train. Just make sure it's concealed. I imagine going through customs wouldn't be too difficult, unless they have dogs around haha

Dont know Munich but Paris would be very risky. I have been searched multiple times by police and K9s at Gar du Nord.

Well in my limited experience with them, the customs agents ask very few questions... things like "where were you previously?" and "where are you going?" and finally "business or pleasure?" and then you're golden... But I know that I wouldn't personally try to get through any customs with anything other than Alcohol and Tobacco... Both of which I have done while underage. I guess if you've done it before with more rigorous customs then Munich shouldn't be too hard on you either. They're pretty mellow there. If you could manage to take the train all the way it would save you a lot of worrying though. Hopefully someone else will offer insight on the subject.

They would be much better if you removed your photo from your profile page.

Maybe he should disguise himself now...as a rastafarian perhaps? That should work pretty good.

I would not recommend trying to get through MUC Airport with anything - every flight from Madrid and Amsterdam has a high presence of ZOLL -customs and excise guys waiting in the arrival hall-baggage reclaim. Also if you take a connecting flight they also track these passengers too -

Well as he said he's taking a train from Amsterdam to Brussels... then flying out. Should he still have problems. Personally I wouldn't try it still. =)

Trains from Amsterdam to Brussels get checked all the time. Risky. Most people cross the border by car if they want to pull these kinds of stunts off. I have flown between Brussels and Munich numerous times over the past four years and have not been checked once for anything.

all good advice, think I'll just take the safe road, and leave the partying to Amsterdam, i don't want to disrespect germany and its laws, and wind up in jail. Heineken is handling all of our travel arrangements, and rather than look a gift horse in the mouth, I'll obey the law of the land Thanks all, see you at oktoberfest on Sept 29th Look me up if anyone is interested in getting together outside of Oktoberfest to party rodneylr@rlrproductions.com

Wise decision. Being a dutchman, and seeing the cultural differences and different opinions on the matter I would say: don't even try to take the stuff over the borders. Party and smoke like there's no tomorrow in Amsterdam, but leave it at that. It's not worth it getting caught.

I don't smoke so I am genuinly ignorant. How much money would you have saved/earned on this trip? In my sheltered little world I would imagine the profit/risk ratio to be rather unatractive.

Any plane that arrives from Amsterdam into Munich is met normally with 6 customs officers. They choose who they want to search and just pull you out.

And they have dogs there for every plane arriving from Amsterdam.

Except if you work for a certain Munich employer, then you flash the IO pink pass and sail on through. Apparently. Have personally never been searched flying from AMS to MUC, others may have been stopped but I'm generally one of the first off that plane, near the front at passport control and through before the customs guys have put their coffee down, there may be some Obey The Suit going on? Obey The Suit
But I've still never imported and never will - don't even smoke it up there, I fear I'd fall into a canal as I mostly travel alone.

I'm sort of surprised- especially as both Germany and The Netherlands are Schengen countries! Is it just that people try and smuggle pot that they would search? I didn't think that flights between Schengen countries even had Zoll??

He's flying from Brussels to Munich, people.
I would think you could potentially run into problems in Brussels, but probably not in Munich, unless you use these souvenirs in public. I would worry more about crossing the border there.. they do search sometimes on the train, so it's up to you if you want to risk it. It's going to be a long, stressful train ride for you though.

You know, there are plenty of TTers who smoke, why not just try and hook up something from them when you get to Munich?

It would be nice to be able to bring some back from the Netherlands though. Ludicrous that if you stand on one side of an arbitrary line it's perfectly legal but if you're standing a few meters away on the otherside, it's a serious offense.
I guess it's that way with a lot of things but marijuana legistlations is one of the more ridiculous.

if you want to bring the stuff into Germany I would suggest driving myself...there are drive in coffee shops at the dutch border to cater for exports
