Donuts and Candies is a place that was just recommended to me by a colleague. Apparently they have similar offerings to the like of Dunkin' Donuts et al
Has anyone been to this establishment yet and can provide a review? Is it worth throwing in my diet and trekking across town to buy a box or two? Will I find Boston Cremes? Will it turn me into Homer Simpson?
It seems to a chain with shops in Hamburg, London and Wiscosin and is incorporated in the UK. I've never heard of them before.

Yeah, I live just round the corner...they're pretty good, but it's been a long time since I lived in the States so I can't really remember how they'd compare to Dunkin' Donuts. The dude that works there wears far far too much foundation and plucks his eyebrows which kinda makes him look like a very gay wax figure.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that any foundation on a dude is far far too much foundation.

They have decent donuts, but nothing that incredible. A bit on the heavy side if I remember correctly.

Well, Dunkin Donuts are heavy. That is why I like Krispy Kreme donuts as the bobke seems to already have an understanding of. Nothing beats a Krispy Kreme donut hot off the line with a big ass glass of milk.

All I know is that they do coffee for a euro and the guys that work there are like the
Mosi fan club.

I have heard that place is pretty good...never been though.
Nothing stacks up to Dunkin Donuts...yum...a blueberry donut with their delicious coffee. Now I'm hungry.
Bern- since you can, go eat that on my behalf!

Are they affiliated with the Bagel Guys (
BattyBaristas) further down the street (Barerstr. 42)?

I used to live around the corner from D&C and can definitely recommend the place - once in a while I would pick up a dozen to bring to the office for my workmates. Even though we moved away 6 months ago, my colleagues are still asking me to bring in some D&C donuts!

I don't know but Batty's has really yummy coffee, AND Ben & Jerry's ice cream. One of the girls that works there is a total BITCH, but the rest of the helperbees are really nice and make it a pleasant place to get good coffee.
Sorry, that had nothing to do with this thread.

I live just around the corner, too, and I think it is an adorable place. The guy who works there is cool -- one day black hair, the next, white (or are there two different guys?). Anyway, it is a pretty camp place. I have gotten the nougat doughnut a couple of times, and liked it so much that I´ve never tried another kind. But they are toootally heavy -- you eat one and can´t think about another for another couple of weeks. Unlike Krispy Kremes, which I can eat a whole box of...

even better when you get a free one! the only reason to go in the store instead of drive thru (how do you spell it? drive through?) to get a free hot fresh doughnut. mmmm... artery clogging- yum!

All is this Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' talk is 100% hype. Are they both good? Yes--donuts are good, by default, because they are frickin' donuts.
A fresh cider donut, however, from the snack bar at New York/New England cider mill, come autumn, is one of the best tasting things in the universe and about 50 bazillion times better then anything KK or DD has to offer. I have never seen another type of food cause people to wake up at 7am on a Sunday, just to avoid the Disneyland caliber--hour plus--lines that happen later in the day to get 'em.

You've obviously never had a Krispy Kreme donut straight off the conveyer belt then. That's what makes them different. Sure, they're not all that different from any other donut when they're cold and have been sitting under the counter for awhile, but the real Krispy Kreme experience is in the hot-from-the-oven form.

Yeah, I've had "hot now" Krispy Kremes fresh out of the fryer, and while they are alot better then their cold, less fresh donuts, cider donuts are still scales of magnitude better. That's like saying In-n-Out burger is the best cheeseburger in the world, sure it's as good as fast food gets, but it's still fast food.

Well at least compare like to like - say Dunkin' Donuts to Krispy Kreme. There's no point in comparing something that is accessible to millions and something that people here might actually try one day to some obscure shop in New England. When it comes to chain donut shops, there's no comparison to a Krispy Kreme hot off the press. I'm sure there's probably dozens of mom and pop shops that can produce better, but most of us will never know it or be able to compare unless we happen to live near one.

I guess me mentioning Cider doughnuts was kind of pointless and obscure--now thankfully everyone can get back to debating the merits of two American donut chains on a website for people who live in Munich.
