Right then,
I know at least one TTerin is up for this. She's been asking for ages for it. She is top of the list.
So I thought I'd put it out wider. Apparently where I live is at quite a high altitude thus we do tend to get some extremely clear nights sometimes out here. Not only can you see the Milky Way but you can even see the dark lane which shows it is a spiral system we live in. I bought my telescope when I lived in Munich and basically put it back into its box not long after as I couldnt see very much. It was only until we movbed out of the city that I began to see amazing stuff.
My interest is in what astronomers call "Deep Sky" that is objects beyond our Solar System, but I do give them a look from time to time. Saturn looked glorious this early summer whilst Jupiter has two bands of clouds you can clearly see as well as the moons. The big planetary event of the autumn will be the return of Mars which is best in December for viewing. don't ask me much about the Moon which does look amazing in my scope but I am only just starting to organise a study of its features.
There's lots to see at the moment, M11 the "Wild Duck" cluster is beautiful. Albireo in Cygnus is a yellow blue double star. M57 the Ring Nebula looks like a smoke ring in space. Additionally I can show you some of the interesting stars to ben seen particularly varible stars, such as the "winking" star Algol which noticeably dips in brightness every few days.
Although I am still a learner myself there's lots I can show now. It would be a pleasure. Date and time would most likely be new moon which is the best time to see these objects. Location I'd reckon would be very near my home (so I can run home to fetch stuff if something breaks!)
Any takers?
