
For the whisky-lovers out there, according to the Glenfiddich website the Malt Whisky Companion writes that it has a nose with a "huge bouquet" of "newly dug peat, burnt heather, old books, leather and oak", and a "smooth and silky" palate that "wraps around the tongue, with sweet flavours reminiscent of treacle toffee, crème brûlée and toasted almonds." A German website, http://richtigteuer.de, goes further and detects oak, toffee, cinnamon, cloves, leather, strong coffee, cedar, bitter chocolate and sweet tobacco.
Van den Brink purchased the bottle over the internet, but travelled to Munich to pick it up from Tara last Thursday, and can now add it to his existing collection of 180 whiskies. It could have been worse - apparently a bottle would have cost him €35,000 if he'd bought it in the Far East.
