Hi everyone

A while ago I remember reading somewhere about something called 'The Long Night of the Museums' where apparently Berlin Museums are open very late or all night and admission is free or something like this. I think it is happening this weekend does anyone know about it?

keep cool

Here you go: Lange Nacht der Museen (in English).

QUOTE
(...) For this anniversary, 110 museums, collections, archives, memorials, and exhibition houses will be on show. Whoever has not yet managed to have a look at the re-opened Bode-Museum, or the restored Saurian in the wonderfully rearranged Natural History Museum, will have ample opportunity to do so during the Long Night. The 'Haus der Kulturen der Welt' will be celebrating its reopening after a year under construction. Berlin Cathedral, which is always a visitor magnet during the Long Night, will once more be taking part despite financial and structural problems like the missing cross on the dome. Some venues will be celebrating their own anniversaries: the Anti-war museum has been in existence for 25 years, the society for Berlin's underworld looks back on 10 years of work underground, and the Labyrinth children's museum has been around for ten years.

Edit: Beaten to it, sort of.

Lucky you, I don't live in Berlin anymore. I went twice to the long night of Museums. There are so many good museums in Berlin and even some other places take part (I remember a small ballet performance in the "Berliner Dom"). But I would advice you to get a program leaflet in advance and to mark the interesting museums/events. If you start with something like a planned route (although you will not always follow it), you will probably manage to see much more.

Oh cool... I went to this about 6 months ago, managed to see most of the places at Museumsinsel before collapsing. Wasn't free that I can remember, tickets were about 12€ each, but we had student cards and got in for 6€ I think !!

Hope this includes the Neue Nationalgalerie... better check that link wink.gif

Last year we ended up just going to a bunch of events at the car showrooms in the city center. They had all sorts of stuff organised that night too. The one on Friedrich str, and Unter den Linden had a silk screen exhibition and a band playing Jazz music. Not sure if they'll do the same thing again this year tho.

So I'm vaguely interested in this, but not inspired enough to make a plan of my own. I might like to tag along with someone else's plan.
