anyone got any idea of a suitable expression in english which carries the same meaning as Die Goldene Mitte?
my heads stalling at the moment...
The golden mean?
Edit: STB's suggestion is more idiomatic. What's the context, btw?

In German "goldene Mitte" means something like "the best possible compromise under the circumstances" ...
That's why "happy medium" would be a good translation.

Die Goldene Mitte means something like "a happy medium".
...as already stated in post #4 above.
