Instructions for patching the Telefonanlage - Germany

Wiring the telephones in an apartment block

So today, the second scheduled appointment, and the Deutsche Telekom technician did not arrive to connect my phone/DSL line (official excuse was that I did not answer the intercom; yeah, right).
All they needed to do was to connect a pair of small cables in the basement of the building, where there are the phone connections for everybody.

Since I am not too sure that they will make the next scheduled appointment either, I have half a mind to buy the right tool and patch the Telefonanlage myself.
Does anybody have a link to instructions on how to do it?
The apartment numbers are marked, so it should be relatively simple once I know what cable color goes into which socket.

thanks

If you don't know already what you are about to do, then don't do it. It is easy if you have a clue, but since you want to buy a tool, I am thinking you don't.
It would be better to (and do this on Monday so as not to piss off your neighbors to much) sabotage the connections in order to get someone out there pronto. ph34r.gif
Shit, do it tonight and be ready with a €50 tomorrow to get the dude to hook you up now.

There are no colours. Telekom know which incoming circuit from the exchange is yours - they are all labelled numerically. The Telekom technician will have already patched your line onto one of these numbers. They then identify the line going to your apartment with cable/curcuit detectors and hook the identified line onto the correct circuit. Easy when you know how, and know have the circuit ID, neither of which you do. The alternative is to identify your apartment line (maybe by short-circuiting) then trying each incoming cable pair until you can call your own number and the phone rings. This might piss others off if you get it wrong.

Of course all of this is strictly illegal as you are tampering with the main distribution box, which is not your property and not allowed...

All correct, I had another look during the weekend and there was no way to tell which cable was what line/apartment.
They arrived today, and after some rounds of phone calls it was all fixed.
Turns out that for large buildings there is a set of Verteilern (spelling?) and a Hauptverteiler. Neither the Telekom or the Hausmeister had the correct location for this, and it took a while to find it.
