Any hope of catching a baseball game... esp Red Sox... on the telly anywhere in Berlin?
vincecanada
Your best bet is probably mlbticket through mlb.com...haven't seen a sniff of a regular season game, who knows about playoffs.
Roman_from_Toronto
Try NASN (North American Sports Network) from Kabel Deutschland. They show all the playoff games all in English. You are always welcomed to see some games at my place, me cheering alone drives my wife crazy (but I won't cheer for the the Red Sox - Blue Jays fan of course)

Last year there were a couple places that played the games during the playoffs - Balushi's and Salama.

Not sure who will be this year.

As far as regular season games, you might try either of those two - in advance of course.

Rumor also has it that there's a place at Potsdamer Platz that may have them available too - but I haven't checked it out.

Do these places play live or on tape delay because I'm thinking a 8 EST start for a playoff game is...2 AM here. Me nappy nap and sleepy head at that time.
phoenix-rose
Last year, it was live (ugh!)

Andy's Diner at Potsdamer Platz has a sign that says they show American sports. But last time I was there, they were showing soccer on DSF.

Your best bet is to get NASN from Kabel Deutschland. They show plenty of Red Sox games. But not enough Astros games sad.gif

That Salama bar turns out is right down the street...the guy there said they would be showing the series at least! Thanks!!!

Hello, I am a Bostonian living in Berlin for a few months and I'm having some serious Red Sox withdrawal. Does anyone know where I can find American baseball on TV (specifically tonight, the Red Sox home opener is tonight at 8pm - 2pm EST). I've already tried contacting some sportsbars I found online (Playoff, Belushi's, Oscar Wilde, Murray's/Emerald Isle), but none of them are showing it. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Best bet is to buy the season on MLB.com. I have done this the past 3 years to keep up with my Cards.
Ami in Berlin
Before you buy the mlb.tv, make sure you read the conditions very carefully. I nearly shelled out the well over $100 before I noticed that all Saturady games are blacked out. Considering the time difference, most of the games I would be able to watch would be Saturday games. For me, at least, that makes this service pretty much worthless.

The conditions are also no clear as to whether or not they show the post season.
jtw
You should check the NASN and Sky TV listings on their respective websites to see if the game is even available to sports bars.
Kindbud
If you get the MLB.com package you should be able to watch all games. They only black out games if you are within the US (certain markets). I watched it the whole season last year in Australia and I was able to see every game, including playoffs. Definitely worth it. Especially if you are a Sox fan. Cause they're the best.

Is this true? On the website it say that Saturday afternoon games are not broadcast.

QUOTE
• Local Live Blackout: ALL LIVE MLB.TV games will be blacked out in each applicable Club's home television territory (except for certain home television territories for which MLB.com may offer in-market subscription services) or in Japan.
• National Live Blackout (Regular Season): Due to Major League Baseball national exclusivities, each Saturday until 7:00 PM EST (beginning May 17, 2008 and continuing for remaining Saturdays during the regular season) and each Sunday night (for games that begin after 5:00 PM EST), all scheduled webcasts of games played within such time period will be blacked out.
• National Live Blackout (Post Season): Due to Major League Baseball national exclusivities, during the MLB postseason, if you live within the following nations or territories, webcasts of all postseason games will be blacked out: United States, Canada, Guam, US Virgin Islands, South Korea and Japan.
• NOTE: Due to broadcast restrictions, new MLB.TV and Condensed Game archives are limited to a playing time of five minutes in duration until 6 am ET on the day following that on which the applicable game commenced play.

Another issue is that due to the time difference, I would be watching most of the games through the archive, but those archived games are not accessable until noon CET the next day.
Kindbud
I'm pretty sure those "Local & National Blackouts" are only applicable to US residents.
At least in my experience. And in all honesty. You don't really have any other options if you regularly want to watch baseball.
And the archive games usually come on within a few hours. The condensed games are pretty sweet as well.
But yeah, suit yourself.
LauKatOD
Unless they changed the rules since last year, I was def. able to watch Saturday games on mlb.tv...they have also upgraded the the technology this year for the premium package...its great stuff.
dolfan
Shit, that May 17 language isn't very encouraging. I will cal them up this evening and see what this is all about and make sure that I can watch baseball on Saturday. Will report back.
Ami in Berlin
Kindbud, I would tend to agree with your reading of the conditions. I am only wary because I can see that in practice they could just black out the whole thing on Saturday if some techie and MLB HQ decides that's easier. I'd hate to spend $120 and then have a nasty surprise.

If people report that it works, though, then case closed.
dolfan
Just spoke with customer service and the saturday and sunday blackout only affects users in the US. They track IP addresses to determine who is eligible. So we will get all games just like last year. Also like last year, playoffs are blocked and you will have to buy these separately.
The Beaver
Can I be the first American that says...

'Who gives a shit?'

I like college baseball

Oregon State biggrin.gif
dolfan
If you don't give a shit why the fuck would you read the thread. It is clearly about MLB, you see I am not into midget orgy basketball and if I saw a thread about it I wouldn't read it and sure as hell wouldn't post on it. So fuck off to Oregon.
The Beaver
I read it because it was about baseball. I like baseball

I put smiley faces in and everything.

Did your team lose?

You're kind of an asshole and way too uptight.

biggrin.gif

PS - I agree - FUCK OFF OREGON!!! FTD!!!

Sorry I thought the smiley was because OSU is a joke, my apologies, carry on.

Edit: also, I'm not kind of an asshole, I'm full throttle thank you very much.

Now they have 1.2MB streaming. The quality is getting better each year (and it is priced in dollars, so it is well worth it).
dolfan
the 1.2 is really good, getting close to digital quality and certainly better than what I used to watch as a kid over an antenna.

back to back National Champions are a joke? Okey dokey

the rest made no sense. drink more.

Go BoSox!!!
dolfan
So you don't care about MLB yet you support the Boston Red Sox? You do realize that they are a mamber of MLB right?
The Beaver
Where is the slap the forehead emoticon?

baseball is righteous.

smile.gif

I like baseball. Just not enough to go crazy about it over here. Hey, I go crazy for college football, so color me red. It's the only American sport I follow while living here. However, I also watch rugby (my friend plays and I played in college), I watch too many fussball matches, and even that blasted handball.

You make fun of Oregon State again, I'll personally come down and beat you biggrin.gif
dolfan
Oh you mean the Oregon State Fur Burgers, no problem I will lay off!
The Beaver
Holy shit, you are from Ar kansass.

sweet.

have fun!

hey, how about this toy?

This is an interesting piece of information:

I'm glad I didn't pay for this. I just discovered that the archives are free. Just go to mlb.tv and watch any game in the archives. You need a subscription for the live games, but with the time difference it's mostly day old games I'd be watching anyway.
MarkL
oh my god.
Ami in Berlin
Just finished watching last night's White Sox-Seattle game. Flawless stream at 800k. Perfect. Now watching the three minute recaps of the other games.

I have no idea why MLB is giving this away for free, but no complains here.

Now if I could only find a way to download Baseball Tonight ...
PES
I pay for it and with the new 1,2 feed it is well worth it.
Roman_from_Toronto
Thanks Ami !!!
I usually scramble through useless broadcasts to catch my games but now I can just watch them anytime.
We can't watch live weekday games here anyways because of the time shift so replays will do just fine.
trippdigital
Where do you find the archives? I just checked out the site and couldn't find them.
MarkL
go here:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mediacenter/index.jsp

and then click "open calendar"

it's so amazing. i've been watching the games every morning. now if only the tigers didn't suck so bad.
Ami in Berlin
Try being a Mariners fan sometime.
MarkL
ohmy.gif what! i'm almost insulted. after all the pain i've endured over the last 15 years...
Ami in Berlin
What you've endured? I was 14 before the M's even had their first winning season. Try sitting in the Kingdome with about 2,000 other people and losing. Every. Single. Time.
MarkL
eh-hem..
