Information on the festival is here.

Interested, but hate attending events like this solo? I and another American woman in her 30s are going, and maybe some others from our circle. We are both feminist/Leftist, both work and live here, are open-minded, outspoken and pleasant (despite our interest in seeing slasher thriller movies!) We have bought tickets for the following.

Like-minded men and women welcome, just send me a private message. Tickets are 8€ a piece.

Hey there,

I'd love to join you guys for Joshua. Do you need to get a ticket now?

Given any thoughts to "Dead Silence", "Disturbia" or "Paprika"?
tlcoles
Cool!

Once you buy your tickets, send a PM with your phone number so we can coordinate...
Not sure if the Joshua tickets will sell out, but no reason to not buy early if you can.
To the others... Dead Silence and Disturbia both look GREAT, but I can't schedule anything
for Sunday and Monday evenings (plans). If that changes, can let you know!!

Not Paprika though. That's by the Perfect Blue guy. Hated that film so steering clear.

I may very well be interested - are these in OV or dubbed German with subtitles? (My german is terrible, but I love horror flicks!)

The Ferryman - 1500

Mr Brooks - 1915 (Kevin Costner)

I went to the one in Munich, and the films are mixed. Usually subtitled in English, but some are in German (like Daywatch). Best to check the programme online!

Good quesion...I looked through the website but couldn't find any info on that. Just wrote an Email to the Veranstalter. I can't stand dubbed movies...even if it's a language I don't speak I'd still rather read subtitles...
tlcoles
Each is marked right under the title per this example:

THE ABANDONED
LOS ABANDONADOS / Nacho Cerdà
OFFICIAL SELECTION / Spanien 2006, 90 min, englische OV / Deutsche Premiere

Where "englische OV" means English original version, for those of you with rusty German. ;-)
Look for those also marked OmeU and OmenglU for "mit englische Untertitel"

"Paprika"

I watched Paprika at the FFF in munich, liked it. There is one disturbing scene, though, but it's not anything like in Perfect Blue.

This information is given in the Tagesplaner for Berlin: http://www.fantasyfilmfest.com/fantasy/med...gesplaner_B.pdf

I got a reply from the good people of the festival:

QUOTE
Alle englisch sprachigen Filme sind ohne Untertitel.
Filme, die nicht englisch sprachig sind, sind entweder mit englischen oder
(seltener) mit deutschen Untertiteln.

I've never seen Perfect Blue actually; but there's a list of top 50 Science Fiction movies and Paprika is on it (although at the bottom smile.gif )

So far, I've seen Black Sheep (wonderful), Wolfhound (god awful) and Fido (highly recommended!).

What about the rest of you?
em8chel
I'm going to "Disturbia" with a friend tonight; think you can make it?

Otherwise give me a holler if anyone of you is going to "Joshua" on Wednesday!
tlcoles
Did I miss your call or was this a general request? I have plans for tonight, sorry. But I haven't found anyone to take my extra ticket for Joshua. Unless my friend Jennifer has gotten rid of it, it's yours. (In exchange for a cup of coffee when we finally do that.)

PM with your email address and I can send an email to you and Jennifer on this.

I saw

ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE

last night - I thought it was pretty good. Nicely done for the price they made it for. Good consistent plot (minus a few hairstyle change gaffs) though I was laughing at the running barefoot scene.

I'm seeing Disturbia tonight - em8chel - a friend of mine and I are going if you're looking to meet.

~Rose
em8chel
@tlcoles: We'll have to find some other movies to see then! I've got ticket for "Joshua" already, but maybe there are others thinking of going too?

@Rose: I just PMed you my cell phone number; you'll be the first TT member I get to meet:)
phoenix-rose
Awesome... I got it - I'll call you shortly because my friend (M.) just bailed. Some kind of family emergency.

Maybe someone needs my extra ticket to Disturbia?

~Rose

Hey em8chel,

Glad to meet ya last night. It was fun watching disturbia.

However, the one that has been the best so far? The one I almost didn't see, but decided last minute to buy a ticket because I wasn't sleepy. Botched

Botched was a horror flick that was meant to be campy and funny. The plotline says it all:

Ritchie Donovan (Dorff) is a professional thief whose luck has just run out. The only survivor from a heist that goes terribly wrong, Ritchie is forced to take the rap and is sent to Russia to steal a priceless antique cross locked in a safe on the penthouse floor of a Moscow skyscraper. Things start badly and go rapidly downhill when, during the robbery, Ritchie and his Russian accomplices are forced to take hostages because they are trapped by the police on the unused 13th floor.

Seriously, the two psychopaths on the 13th floor think they're going to resurrect the days of Ivan the terrible- so you have the "robbers", the "hostages", and couple people running around in outfits "Ivan" style. At one point, they have subtitles for a guy with a Russian accent on his english - they type it literally. (Moof it, moof it!)

By the end, the audience was laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes. It was gruesome, gory, campy and funny. It's one I'm buying when it comes out on video - because it fits my morbid humor quite well. If it comes to theaters guys, this one is gonna be a cult classic.

On to a few more later today...

Laughing til we cried -- that's how I responded to Wolfhound. When I said it was bad, I meant LAUGHABLY bad. At one point, the guys sword becomes a light-saber. Conan the Barbarian/He-Man meets Darth Vader/ Skeletor

Good lord.

"All the Boys Love Mandy Lane" war GEIL!!
phoenix-rose
Re Wolfhound - was it supposed to be funny or just scary?

In the case of Botched - it was intended to be comedic bloodbath. I think the same is true of Fido.

~Rose

@rose
The movie [Disturbia] really takes its time to build its characters up and the the teenage love subplot is quite sweet too. I had a great time, although now I wish I had stayed for Botched sad.gif Was thinking about "Dead Silence" today but 23:45 is kinda late and I have a rather full day tomorrow...man imagine having a day off and just watching horror movies all day!

@tlcoles
I'm still feeling gutted that I couldn't join you guys for "Black Sheep" because the tickets were sold out...hehe I had an inkling that I was not going to enjoy "Wolfhound" ...the hyperbole just reads too suspicious..."Russia's answer to Lord of the Rings"?... biggrin.gif
jtw
If they're going to have Fantasy in the name and Science Fiction in the description, maybe they should try actually having some Fantasy or SF next time...
tlcoles
There has been some, jtw, but not as much as one might wish. (Wolfhound, for example, is squarely in the fantasy tradition.)
em8chel
I suspect "Fantasy" is used as some kind of euphemism...all my German friends are allergic to horror films...
