The weather's not really playing along, but just a reminder that the Olympiapark summer festival (programme) is on at the moment, from 12pm-11.30pm each day till Sunday, August 19th.

As well as a number of fairground rides and the small beer garden, there will be a free firework display today, August 9th, and Thursday, August 16th at 10pm.

This weekend, August 11th and 12th, will host the 33rd International Schifferstechen contest, where boatmen ("Schiffer") try to knock their opponents into the water using lances. (There are apparently rules for this sport: you can read them in German here. The website also has some photos from last year's contest).

You could combine this with a visit to the Theatron music festival (http://www.theatron.de/), which is also currently on at the amphitheatre near the swimming pool/Olympiasee. Live bands play for free from 7pm each evening (programme).
