Christopher Street Day is an annual LGBT celebration and politcal event held in various cities around Germany (notably Berlin and Cologne). This year, the Munich event will be held over two days around Marienplatz under the motto "We want more. For Munich".

11. August: Politischer Auftakt (11-12 Uhr, Marienplatz)
11. August: Politparade (Start: 12 Uhr, Marienplatz)
11./12. August: Straßenfest (Marienplatz/Rindermarkt)
11. August: CSD-Rathausclubbing (!!!)

More info (german) here

Obviously not exactly my thing, but ill be doing most of the stages and technik for it. find it strange that no one mentioned it before.

MonksTown
heheheh I didn't want to start loads of puff threads innit.

It's also known as Pride Weeks this year as the LETRA Strassenfest in Angertor Strasse this Saturday 4th August and the
SUB Hans-Sachs Strassenfest the week after CSD on Saturday 18th August.

Bring your drinking heads, it's a massive bender for the next few weeks! cool.gif

If anyone want to go Rathaus Clubbing on 11th you need to try and get your mitts on the FEW remaining tickets NOW!
Afaik, the Munich Ticket network has already sold out.

There's the vague idea floating around at the minute of a few TTers doing "quiet afternoon drinks" on the Sunday in Marienplatz.
Pumps Race?
pootle
Will be in town for the pumps race, but cant stand csd saturday.

P
MonksTown

ive rarely had so much fun building up an event. first and foremost, all the technik is from the kulturreferat (who are part city techinical division, part hippy/punk commune) and its so much fun explaining to ur-münchener what bayerischefest is taking place on the weekend. the looks of "oh dear jesus" are fantastic.

but fuck it, im off to (near) berlin with the best band ive found in munich in 3 years ( www.mexicanelvis.com ) so ill be back on sunday morning to clear up after the rathaus clubbing mess. hope yis have a good time.

Thanks, the rainbow flags certainly brighten up the Platz on such a dark day!

There's been a bit of a change of the show programm, the Canadian group "The Hiden Cameras" have been added to the program at the last minute and are on stage at Marienplatz around 8PM tomorrow. Come really recommended.
pootle
typical shite csd weather... enjoy the partying people
bluedave
Shame about the shite weather, probably gonna deter some of those super kinky outfits that the lesbian ladies wear for this event.

So who else is going to look at the funny folk today? I shall drop by and have a beer keep myself amused. blink.gif
sarabyrd
We may wander down at some time in the afternoon, depends on the gastric situation blink.gif

Got drenched yesterday walking through Marienplatz - it was crowded but mostly with families and food/drink stands. I was amused at 2 guys who started to 'fight' with each other at a beer stand. Looked like they'd just split up. Got a bit dangerous as one threw a glass bottle at the other, missed, and nearly hit a 4 yr old girl. Oh, and the goths were out in abundance too for some reason. Must've seen at least 10 of 'em, which is unusual for Munich during the daytime.

So - what's the plan today at Marienplatz? Any parade or owt?
MonksTown
Just waking up now. Lots of VERY nice Men around innit.

'twas delightful this afternoon. Any time I went up for a Weißbier refill I called out, "Süßer"! and was served immediately.
The how-ever-many-meters high heel dash was very amusing, we were right next to the ladder obstacle. The announcesse kept on high-jacking straight beers from the surrounding tables with faint protests from the victimized guys. Scogs has the files, we may need help with any videos.

Just got in, had a lovely afternoon. Only had 3-4 beers because of the heat, pity not more TTers were there! Met some peeps from MISC had a bit of a chat with them and now I am here again. Tried to post from an Internet Cafe, to get more of you out, but the thing collapsed everytime I tried! dry.gif Had a nice table with sarabyrd and Scogs, pity you all missed it! blink.gif

In honour of the spirit of the weekend found this today (big hit when I was 14 and I loved it...my father was appalled)

Divine´s " You think you´re a man"
sea-king
WTF!
MonksTown
I didn't miss it at all! cool.gif

Was nice to see a fellow TTer working for the community. I think I threw a few shapes with a VERY nice bloke for Essex as well.
Didn't need my best mate gobbing off some guy on the pavement just off the Müllerstrasse but that is 80469 for you. rolleyes.gif
berny
what i didnt need was some fucked up homeless lunatic flipping out on marienplatz just as we were finishing derigging the stage (about 2 hours ago) and running around after us trying to attack us while im on the phone to the cops asking if im allowed to hit him with a hammer (only thing i had to hand) because the fucker was bleeding from his neck (dont know how that happened) and i didnt want him touching me.

no it wasnt alright to hit him with the hammer. fucking should have though. CUNT.

apart from that and the shite music, CSD was a nice little fest.
MonksTown
CSD music is MEANT to be a bit iffy innit.
Just saw that Divine video and for a minute thought, oh she looks like one of the dodgy trannies from the Pumps Race! laugh.gif
It was FABULOUS to dance in the courtyard of the Rathaus in Saturday. It was raining slightly, the bodies of the dancing people turned it to steam and all the windows above you were flashing in rainbow colours.

Next week is Hans Sachs Strasenfest. I know one of the DJs playing and I've already booked some über cheesy Stock, Aitken and Waterman hits. cool.gif
UrbanAngel
I liked what that female singer was wearing - the one all in a white fairy-style dress with stripy socks!

No tin the UK - I have been to many pride parades there, we paid about 15 quid entrance and had really well-known acts like Boyzone, Jimmy Somerville, Kylie, Weathergirls, Five... Here it is crap and a disappointment! I would much rather pay an entrance fee here and get some decent acts!
MonksTown
I meant that the music is meant to be trashy camp bubble gum pop.
I spoke to the one of the DJs who is playing Hans Sachs Strassenfest next Saturday.
There is going to be some fabulous old school Stock, Aitken and Waterman! cool.gif

The move to the 15 quid entrance fee etc in the UK is part of the way that festivals have changed there over the last few years, the cullture of regulation and comericalism.

There's already hefty discussion about the fact that the Rathaus clubbing in Munich costs about €22 a ticket.
If keeping the entertainment free for everyone and in public means that we don't have the biggest acts then so be it I think.
I tend not to watch the show myself personally cos I 'm hanging and chatting with mates.

The UK way also requires capital and carries with it substantial financial risks that I don't think cóuld be carried by the Munich CSD the way it is currently organised.
sarabyrd
The live music and comedy acts on Sunday afternoon were class (except for the miming non-singers). If you start charging admission much less people will come, as it was Marienplatz was packed yesterday with everyone having a good time.
Scogs
the TV high heel race was cool
edit
@MT I dont think the stuff that was in Marrion Platz was cheap to put on, but the bar we were near could hardly cope with beer sales, I guess they help with the costs
georgiagirl
Maybe someone can answer this for me. Someone I know swears he saw Barbara, the ginger from Germany's Next Topmodel, walking along behind one of the floats. Does anybody know if she was actually there? I'm not sure why she would be, but he is convinced that he saw her.

I hear they run on a strict financial regime and at the end of the day, the four organisations that run the CSD in Munich come out with a SMALL profit.
My GUESS would be say about a thosand each and that money of course goes back into their work.

Running a stand at an even like this means a lot of investment and financial risk.
You can make a lot, you can lose a lot.

And a lot of the girls are quite tight with the money and bring along their own drinks. Allegedly.
