Hi,
sorry for listing salary information. I am at a cross-roads if this is worth enough to move to Wiesbaden. I realize that taxes would take about half. I am a single person in the upper 20s with an MBA from the US.
Thanks for any advice and no mean comments please:)
70,000 Euro! You'll survive

That is a nice Salary for someone in their late 20's.

Sufficient? Yes, even considering that Wiesbaden is the most expensive city in Germany. Where did you get your MBA? Depending, you can probably earn more in the US.

Surely it is OBVIOUS to ANYONE that a single young man presumably with no dependents, can survive on this salary. Was the OP just looking for a chance to show off about his Ivy League MBA and his salary?

If it is international experience you want, or there is something special about the position, go ahead and take it, even though your after-tax pay will almost certainly be much less than in the US, maybe only around 3300 euros a month (use 1.12 dollars per euro for the purchasing power parity rate). Otherwise, I would suggest thinking about looking elsewhere, especially if it is a foreign office or affiliate of a US company since overseas postings early in your post-MBA career often don't help you get promoted. Good luck, whatever you decide.
BTW, how good the doctoral program in business (esp. finance) at Cornell?
EDIT: one advantage someone making 70000 euros a year in their late 20s is that private health insurance is much less costly than the premiums for the public system, which are tied to the amount of your salary.

I live in Wiesbaden, am in my late 20s and earn a similar salary...it is easily enough to live comfortably, have a flat in a nice area and still have money left for saving / investing.

Thanks for all responses. Do you regret having moved from US to Germany?

The only thing I regret is not having moved to Germany sooner. I've been here ten years and I'm still loving it. By the way, Wiesbaden was the first place I lived in Germany and I absolutely love Wiesbaden. It has a very high standard of living and it is expensive. At the turn of last century there were more millionaires living in Wiesbaden than any other place in Germany so the buildings are all very grand, mostly old villas that's been turned into apartment buildings. This town was not bombed during the war, so everything is still intact.
I'm in Wiesbaden at least once a month because I love it so much!

No regrets...the standard of living and quality of life is much better here than in the UK, and cost of living much lower. Will i stay here forever? Probably not, but i certainly wouldn't go back to the UK unless family circumstances meant that i had to. If / when i leave Germany by choice it will probably only be for Canada.
