Moving from Durham to Berlin

Ferry to Amsterdam then drive, is this sensible?

Hi

I am in Durham and can get the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam to move my few things after selling up the rest, I would be bringing ie clothes books cooking equipment one set of drawers etc via a hired small van, to the docks in Amsterdam then getting someone to drive a hired van over from Berlin to pick me up. Does this sound like a good way to do it or would it be best to just get rid of everything here?

I moved my stuff from Newcastle to Hamburg in a small van using the Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry at beginning of the year. I hired the van in Hamburg and did the round trip and it cost around £500 which was far cheaper than a removal company and I also had piece of mind that my belongings were in safe hands too. It depends if you feel your stuff is worth it, it was in my case as I had some good furniture and fair bit of electrical equipment. You don’t get much back for second hand goods so you have to consider the cost of replacing it all eventually.

A van up to the size of a Renault Traffic of Mercedes Vito costs the same as 4x4 or SUV on the ferry and if you book well in advance and out of high season the price will be less too.
