I am planning a trip to the Sächsischer Schweiz, south of Dresden. Has anyone been there that can recommend a good trip route? Bastei, Königstein..

I was just thinking of taking the train to Königstein and then walking around. If anyone else is interested I can wait till next weekend or whatever...idea just came up smile.gif

Hey astor,

What i normally do is take a bike (normally rent) and go on the train to Bad Schandeu (something like that) past Konigstein and cycle back to Dresden along the river.

It takes about 5 hrs and their are beer gardens along the way. I would be interested in doing it again.

Another interesting route (was great for my Mother) is to take the train to Rathen. walk up the Bastei, have lunch up there in the Hotel, walk back and take the steamer back to Dresden.

You need to check the boat times though.

There are a lot more other not so tourist popular places that I have bee nto but you would really need a car to get there to start.

There are hundreds of different rock formations and trails to explore. The Bastei and Königstein are the most well known and usually have coach loads of tourists crwaling all over them. In contrast, if you go away from the tourist traps you'll find equally impressive rocks/trails and have the place to yourself.

I found this link in English Trails in Saxony Switzerland. When I'm down there and I normally just pick out an interesting rock formation from the hotel beer garden and climb it the following day. I can't recommend the area enough.

The above natural arch is in the Czech Rep. Well worth a visit. See link for details.
