TT Touch Rugby in Berlin - Tournament 2/3.Oct.2004

Who wants to come?

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > South Germany > Munich > Sport in Munich
Graham
as most of you already know Berlin are hosting a tournement on the last week of Octoberfest (inconsiderate b***ards).

For those of you who will have had enough beer swilling in Munich and fancy beer swilling and currywurst fressing (Berlin is famous for currywurst) in Berlin instead, this tournement is great excuse to go see the sights of Berlin.

We plan to travel up on Friday afternoon and come back sunday night.

please pm me or eMail me if you are interested in coming.

It would be great if Toytown could repeat their success of the Bavarian Open and send a team in such large numbers but failing that all TTers who wish to go will be intergrated into a combined Toytown Touch and Touch Munich team.

Graham
I will be going to watch and drink beer and down my sorrows.

I just got back from the docs and have been diagnosed with Osteo something or other which means no sport for me for at least 6 months plus an operation on both ankles sad.gif
Arwen
sorry, but won't leave munich during oktoberfest!!
will also have friends visiting!

Can't spend 2 weekends in a row in Berlin...The weekend earlier I'm doing the marathon. And this time I will do it, unlike tomorrows scheduled marathon.
ellewood
oh graham that sounds pretty bad. am really sorry! what is it exactly?
Graham
caused by me twisting both ankles pretty badly playing Rugby union. There was undiagnosed damage which has caused the bones around the ankle to become inflamed and start dying off. Theoperation may help but the doc didn't want to say for certain that it would definely be healed. Which reminds me he didn't actually say what the consequences of "not healing" were other than I would lose use of the joints. must ask if that means walking with immovable ankles or foot amputations.
Shaggy
Damn Graham... you better finally listen to the qwacks and rest up!

@Ellewood.. blond valkerie??

So I guess the Comp is looking grim...

Hey Graham, that sounds very bad.
It might be a good idea to ask one or two other doctors about their opinion.
U can ask Badger, sometimes this can prevent a surgery. Which u the best.
ellewood
yes graham, i would ask around a bit. nothing to lose from it...

@shaggy

just got this eMail from Esther:

QUOTE
Hi all,

As you were informed by Graham earlier, there will be a Touch tournament in Berlin on October 2nd and 3rd. On saturday there will be a mixed open with teams from all over Germany. On sunday there will be an international friendly against France. The French will come with a men's and a women's team to continue the tournament that was started last year in Grenoble.

It would be great if many of you came, so that we could have a complete mixed team from Munich. Please let me know until the end of this week (26.9.04) latest whether you like to come to Berlin, so that we can organise a car pool. It is planned to go to Berlin on Friday and return on Sunday. If you like to fly or go by train - go ahead but kindly let me know.

Regards,
Esther

As much as I enjoy sporting trips to Berlin, the timing of this is awful.

I think I'll stay in Munich and play in the Aussie Rules Oktoberfest challenge
Shaggy
Damn... just got a confirm that a friend is coming into town the 2nd... not gonna make this after all. mad.gif

Yeah Graham, get a second opinion, German docs may be better than in the UK but they still make mistakes. They are also extremely knife-happy as they earn more that way.

I recommend the Orthopäd just South of Viktualienmarkt in Frauenstrasse 17, he is really good. My other Orthopäd operated on my knee and told me the left one will need to be operated on too. When I said my hip felt like it was disjointed he told me not to talk rubbish.

So the guy at Viktualienmarkt took one look, x-rayed my hip and said there is nothing wrong with my knee... it was the hip all along and it just puts pressure on the knee. Saved me an operation and a lot of bother (and he's cute!).

I actually trust my Orthopaedic dotor (he is also the the team doctor for the German National Ice hockey team) and he is not earning anything from the surgery cos he is not doing it. He referred me to another doctor who spend 15 minutes going through the scans and told me I had a choice. no surgery now and no sport ever again and maybe surgery anway in the future. Or surgery now and maybe I will be able to play rugby again next season (no garantees).

I also researched the surgery technique and the injury on an orthopaedic we-site and eveything tied up. My MRI scans were virtually identical to theexamples shown on the web-site.

And I got referred to the best clinic inMünchen for such surgery. so i feel i am in good hands.

but thanks forthe conern anyway.

shit, oh well! then you're buggered. Fingers crossed it works!
