yes,this is about reading meters.

The activicy of reading, the verbal construction as it were, is Ablese.
The actual numbers on the meter, or noun, is Stand.

It´s actually Ablesung

Traubenlese is a different matter

When you are doing it it can be Ablesung. But look at the notification next time, it generally says Ablese.

Depends though sara - water reading and electricity reading as in actually doing the reading is Ablesung, when the guy comes to check it's Ablese but what he rights down, what the reading is, is the "Stand".

German, gotta love it.

perhaps in Bavaria - or you confuse "Ablese" in Ablesedatum with the noun corresponding with the verb lesen ...

where I live it´s always Ablesung, which is the only possible correct standard German term for reading meters ...

lesen (like Latin legere) has two clearly distinct meanings:

1. to read (noun: Lesung) - Ablesung, Vorlesung ...

2. to pick, collect (noun: Lese) - Weinlese, Nachlese ...
