(osmachar @ Jul 24 2007, 10:41 am) It's the amount and type of food that makes you gain weight and not in which country the food is eaten.

The word your looking for is moderation. I eat a warm meal almost every lunch at my work canteen and I will always take the Schwabisch option with meat, sauce and spƤtzle. I ask for a small portion and don't have another big meal in the evening.
My experience in obtaining fresh fruit and veg has been good. There are a lot of little grocery shops around that offer a good selection and are much friendlier than the supermarket stores (no panic packing required at the till!). And while walking around to get the shopping you burn enough calories for a nice pastry at the backers smile.gif

The only time I put on weight here in Germany is when I visit the Volksfest too often.
