The termination clause in a contract

Suggestions on how to translate it into German

Hey all, do you think my interpretation is right? If not, how to interpret it correctly?

"Either party to the contract shall be entitled to terminate the contract with six weeks notice to the end of the month." =

"Either party is allowed to terminate the contract with a notification ahead of six weeks, and the notification date shall be counted from the end of the month"

My second question is, how to put it in German? Loads of thanks in advance. rolleyes.gif

to the end of the month

I don't understand this bit. Du mean the notice period of six weeks will be considered from the end of the month?

'Either party may, where required, terminate the contract with a notification period of 6 weeks. This 6 week period will be in effect from the first day of the proceeding month'

(not sure how I've understood what you wrote???) What are you translating it from or are you writing the contract firstly in English then putting it into German?

Jede Partei ist berechtigt, den Vertrag mit einer Frist von sechs Wochen zum Monatsende zu kündigen.

Why don't you ask them?

Thank you for your help.

Nope, the contract was made by someone else, but it's my responsibility to dig out its original meaning. I dunno what the bit "to the end of the month" means either.

I presume it means, as an example:

If you terminate the agreement on 23rd July 2007, this would only come into effect on the 30th September (i.e. the end of the month).

If you had a standard 6-week notice period, you would be essentially free of your obligations on 3rd September (6 calendar weeks).

Hope this helps.
