Shipping belongings from Germany to the UK

Removal company recommendations

I´m moving permanently back to the UK in 6 weeks. I´d appreciate any advice on how to transport a smallish amount of things ( mostly books and clothes) that I want to take home ( I offloaded all the bigger things and IKEA stuff on Ebay). I could do the move with a smallish car, but Ive decided renting the car and the ferry costs might be more expensive than shipping the stuff. And Im in NO hurry to get the things. Can anyone recommend me any companies that do a door to door service at a good price?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Can't recommend any companies, but I do know that most removals companies will take a partial load on the condition that you might have to wait until they find enough to fill a lorry. They put it in storage until then. This was how I got my stuff over here originally.

I did it once (regretted it and came back - but that's another story) and used Bishops Move. The price was reasonable and they did a great job!

The company we used to ship from the US to Germany was part of the EuroGroup. We were happy with their service and prices (not one glass broken!), but I've no idea what the cost might be for an intra-Europe move.

thanks for the tips on moving companies. I´d be really keen to hear from anyone who´s just tried "posting" big quantities of stuff, or using shipping/haulage companies. Sorry to sound tight fisted - but since my stuff isn´t delicate, valuable or bulky, I d like to avoid the expense of a professional removal firm ( I´ve no big firm paying the bill behind me either). I guess my grandparents would have "sent a trunk". Can´t we do that now?

I used Zapf Umzuege.

Just been through this. The cheapest way was to ship stuff using Hermes . 25kg for 27 Eur approx.

Thanks for the tips. Just a thought, but are there any Lorry drivers out there who go between Hannover and the UK Midlands? Meanwhile Hermes is looking quite attractive
