Hi all, anyone know of good ADSL in Berlin that allows you to use POP3 email, we go Alice on Friday it's a nightmare you can only send using and Alice-dsl.net email address and is slow as Hell.

Thanks.

I have a DSL package with Telekom with a wireless LAN and use POP3 and also I have a t-online email account as well. It also gives me a discounted rate to the states. I actually pay a yearly fee too www.mail.com that allows me to read my email account with them over POP3 using Microsoft Outlook. I also have my T-online email account set up to read it over Outlook.

ADSL connections sbhould just provide you with an internet connection, so you"ll need a mail reader tool like MS Outlook (or Outlook Experss) to pick up mail from the POP3 mailbox. I use 1und1 (http://home.1und1.de) and that seems to work fine.

doesn't ADSL stand for Absolutely Dog-Shit Lousy?

You seem to have had a different experience to me. My connection maxes out at 10mbit/s and I download over a hundred gig a month no problem. It's always fast and always on. If you're having persistent problems with it, just quit - at least you can do that with Alice as they don't screw you and tie you into a 24 month contract.

I'm not sure what the original poster wants here. Alice will give you a POP3 account with them. If you want to use a POP3 account with someone else, you're more than welcome, but you'll have to find that yourself.

I use Google Mail, and have it setup to use POP3 no problem..

Can't think of any provider limiting POP3 access to their own services. Some limit SMTP access to send mail (to prevent spamming) but usually offer their own SMTP service which can be used for sending from any address.

I suggest you avoid using the same provider for both email and internet/DSL! You are likely to want to change your internet provider from time to time. Typically for reasons of cost or performance. And that often (not always) means changing your email address that comes with the account.

You'd then have to tell all of your friends and contacts of the new address and all of those online services you registered with (I bet you dont remember all of them).
I'm fed up with having to edit my address book because of friends or family in the UK telling me they changed from a BT email address to a Tiscali one because they believe they have to use the one that comes with their internet account.

Keep them separate. Keep a single email address for as long as you can. I've had my free email address way longer than 10 years by now.

Just as an option, igoogle lets you have several emails on one page. I also 'ditto' the remark about avoiding the ISP as part of your email address. I can hear it now...

So-and-so has changed their isp provider and wishes to make everyone make a note of their new email address. Six months later, when they get a better deal with another isp, they will let you know their *new* email address then- etc. etc. Road Runner, 1&1, arcor, aol, earthlink, ad nauseum. Just stick with a web based email forever, in my opinion and save you and all your contacts the headache. wink.gif
