Cost of living in/near Stuttgart - Germany

Rent, food, transport, basic things, etc.
ManPaz
I am from Mexico and I will be in Stuttgart at the end of September this year since I want to learn German.
I have been looking throughout this page and I found it very useful.
You all have been quite kind answering questions from all the others members so I thought you could help me.

So the question is how much money do I need to live one month in Stuttgart? ,suppose I just need basic things and I will share an apartment and I also have covered School costs. I am not into the idea of having fancy things and eating out in restaurants since I can’t afford that.
Hope you understand the main idea of my Message since I want to make the stay as long as I can to enjoy the experience and learn German.
Thanks.

I would like to have some answers, Realistc answers because I already check in the net and some say 650, 750, 1000 euros.
So I just dont get it at all.

I live in Ludwigsburg and just ran into a Mexician here (he works in Stuttgart). Let me know if you want to meet others from back home.
ManPaz
It would be great. How can I contact them?

PM me your info (e-mail and stuff) and I will pass it along to him.

He still has Mexican plates on his car!

Hola, bienvenido(a).
I don't have a lot of personal experience about living costs in Stuttgart. However I know a few people who where living close by and I will ask them about it tonight.

In the meantime, in the DAAD website you can find some information on approximately how much it would cost to live as a foreign student in Germany. You may also want to consider to contact your local DAAD agency (find out where it is through the closest German Consulate) and ask about the possibilities of getting some financial aid to help on your quest.

Also as a reference my initial budget was around 800 euro per month when I was studying here in Munich. I guess I rarely kept my expenses under that figure, but I also did a lot of things which I didn't plan to do initially. But if you are willing to make some sacrifices and limit yourself to eat always at home, not partying too much, not traveling a lot and not doing anything else than what is extremely necessary, then you could do find with around 600.

Take into account that you will probably also attend a language school, that may be pricy and you should add that to your costs. I've never attended a language school over here, but they are in general not very cheap. Be sure to check that out.

Good luck. Hasta pronto.

I hope that works I really need help.
Thanks.

Thanks Panama I see you are always willing to help people in this page.
Actually my budget is around 900 but just making sure I will survive.

Thanks

If you find share accommodation, and only rent a room, I'm sure you will survive on 900 euros per month no problems at all..

Hey ManPaz, I asked a few friends about their average expenses in Stuttgart and the reponses ranged from 400 euro to 600 euro. The 400 marke is very low, even for most of them, only one person said she could live with 400 euro. But 600 seems more realistic.
Also remember to make an effort on finding out how much will a language course will cost you. That may be expensive.
ManPaz
Thanks panama I already checked the cost of the language School and is around 250 euros per 40 hours, that will covered about a month and a week.
Someone told me that the Volkshochschule of Stuttgart is a public School and the offer very accessible costs.

Is nice to hear what your friend told you, make me feel surer.

Hi ManPaz, you should hurry if you are trying to get to Volkshochshule - while I was living in Munich, I missed the deadline for 1-2 days, and they were merciless... You can also check out if there are university language courses (if you can get a student card) - they should be a bit cheaper.

However, if you manage to find some job (and an employer that will send you the invitation letter), I think that you can get first couple of courses for free. (Inetgrationskurse)

Good luck!

Hi All,

I am from Brazil and have just received an offer to work near Stuttgard. I have 10 years of engineering experience (automobil industry) and currently I have a good position in my job here in Brazil, have a owned house (with dog), wife and 2 young kids.

I would like the help from someone that lives in this area in order to identify the rental fee for a house with 3 bedrooms. As this will be my main expense, I can not add it wrongly in my financial analysis sheet.

For someone with my background (I also speak a little bit english and German, plus Portuguese and Spanish as mother language and I have MBA in Business Administration), how much should I consider minimum for an annual value ?

Thanks in advance.

Our 3 bedroom house with a mother in law apartment runs about 2000 euros a month. If we had rented the house without the apartment, it would have been 1450 euros. We live about 30 kilometers from Stuttgart, though. You will also have to come up with the caution, which is about two months of rent. Your landlord puts it in a savings account and, if there are no damages, you get it back plus interest. At least that's been our experience.
