Life in a small town outside of Munich

Suggestions on where to move to

Hey guys, I've spent about 2years on and off in germany all in Munich or just outside (erding) I'm thinking I'd like to move back to germany but maybe to a smaller town..and probably in bayern..but not munich. It's too easy to just hang out with expats (like on this forum) and I'd really like to learn German and inegrate with the town. Does anyone have any ideas on where I should go? a favorite little town maybe? somwhere you live or have lived and loved?

thanks

Regensburg is beautiful ask perdido for more details, i used to live in Augsburg and it's a lovely little town with Munich only a short hop away should you need to get to the big smoke.

Bamberg is great. Not sure I'd like to live there in the long term, but certainly needs to be investigated. Might be a bit quiet for someone used to Munich.

Good idea!.. For a while. Then you'll be gagging to go out for a pint and a natter again. Lets see how long you can hold out, before you come back begging the company of people who talk rubbish instead of politics and the environment and other serious issues.

No seriously, good luck with it.

I live in a town called Nördlingen, which is on the road between Dönauworth and Bopfingen (north of Augsburg) It is a fabulous old walled city which has a complete wall that can be walked round, great relaxed way of life and a reasonable level of english within the town. It is a popular tourist spot but mainly for italians, germans and south east asians !! It's a bit far from Munich (1 1/2 hours by car) BUT if you really want to feel a part of german culture and the german language, well worth considering.

Other mentions would be for Augsburg / Regensburg / Dinklsebühl / Ingolstadt...

Landshut and Passau are also not bad.

Depends how small you want to go.

I really like Bad Aibling as a small/medium town.
