Family life in Unterhaching

General advice, info about schools, etc.

Hello. My family will move to Munich next week and my husband will work for a company at Unterhaching. We have a daughter who is around two years and half.

I just looked through the discussions surrounding living in the South of Munich, very helpful indeed. But still have tons of questions and look forward to your feedbacks.

First, we want to rent a 3-room apartment, ideally not far away from a kindergarden (or should I call it a school for little children?), nor supermarkets. Any suggestion? And the price level?

Secondly, is this district safe for children? Are there good multi-lingual kindergardens? -- Well, I speak Chinese, English, and French, and hope my girl at least learn English and German at her young age.

I've heard of some play groups in Munich for mothers and children. Is there any in Unterhaching?

And also for my daughter, is it convenient to see a pediatrician here?

As to the neighbouring districts, could you also share with me some experience? As we have not decided where to live for sure.

Thanks a lot!

Hello!

Unterhaching is not a bad place. It has all the shops you'd need and Munich city centre can easily be reached by S-Bahn. It is a safe place, just like anywhere else around Munich. Places like Neubiberg or Ottobrunn are close by and similar to Unterhaching. Oberhaching also isn't far and has more of a countryside feel to it.

Can't really help you with playgroups but should the company your husband works for be NETMA/NATO, you should be entitled to send your children to the kindergarten of the European School in Perlach. If not, I'm sure some other TT members will be able to give some more advice...

hi...I live in Unterhaching and I think it would be great for a young family. There are like 6 grocery stores within a few minutes from each other, a nice park (even has a small hill for sleigh riding in the winter), Perlacher Forrest is really close and there is a nice community pool. Not sure about playgroups or kindergartens though! Good luck!

There is also a cozy library near the Rathaus. I think you should look in the yellow pages for the kindergrippe list. I live
in Taufkirchen just one stop from Unterhaching.
