Property buying vs. renting

Is an apartment in Munich a good investment?

I know this topic has been discussed before, but having read over a few of them i am in need of some advice. My fiance and i are hoping to buy our own place this year, we are currently renting but wanted to buy in or around Munich, we dont have any concrete future plans as to location etc, but its always nice to have options and the chances are we wont stay in Germany permanently.

Basically we were hoping to buy something stay for a few years, sell it and make some profit, but after reading other posts i see that this isn't always the case in Germany, my finace already owns an apartment that his parents are currently in but when the move back to Croatia next year it is his to do with as he chooses, he is self employed so he is a bit concerned about retirenment etc.

What i would like to know is, is it a good idea to buy in Germany for investment reasons, or should we continue to rent, and use the other apartment as an investment.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I know it's a long topic, but I find it difficult to believe you will get a better discussion of the pros and cons than here: Buying property in Munich and mortgage advice

Location, location, location. That is all you need to know when buying property for future profit.
