Where to get Steckerlfisch in winter - Munich

Hi everyone,

My wife and I will be in the Munich area over the Christmas holiday. I am looking for some info, please help if you can. My wife loves steckerlfisch. We know we could get at Fests in the summer. I was wondering if there is any where we can get steckerlfisch in the winter. If anyone knows if its available in the winter and where we can get it please let me know. It will be a huge surprise for her!

You can buy smoked eel all year round. It is way better than a fish on a stick. Seriously!

Look to the resturants and beerhalls for your wintery Sticky Fish pleasure..

Burschenverein Machtlfing have a fund raising "Steckerlfisch" party from November til February.
Only conditions: adult participants must be former boy or girls scouts, or at least catholics.

That's quite some party...

I want to let you know something....my last name is Steckerl!!! I was so surprised about learning about Steckerlfisch...I have been tracing my family....my father came from Vienna, and I only have gotten back to my great-great grandfather,Jacob Steckerl, who came from a town called Misslitz, now called Miroslav in the Czech Rep.
Do you think that the name Steckerl was originally from Bavaria??? Should I look for people there???
It seems the Steckerlfisch has been around for a very long time???

The word "Steckerl" is Bavarian/Austrian dialect and simply means "little stick".
