British fantasy football league

Hi All,

So here we are again, a new season is only a few weeks away.

The new Player List has been posted(pdf format). As its still early doors, this list will no doubt change. So no rush to get your teams in yet.

When you sign up, dont forget to give me your team names and your email address. Each week I'll send out an updated file with the table and a breakdown of all the players points, so you can track how each others teams are doing. For anyone who signs up who didnt take part last year, I can send you an example of the file that was used.

So if you are interested, stick your name down below and get your team to me before the big KO on the 11th August. We can sort money afterwards.

This years rules are below.

1. Team Selection
Team must comprise of 1 goalkeeper annd 10 outfield players from the following formations -
4-4-2
4-3-3
4-5-1
3-4-3
3-5-2
3-6-1
5-4-1
5-3-2
Cost of entry is 25€ per team.
You can only have a maximum 3 players from the same team at anytime. So forget about playing a full Liverpool defence!
Should a situation arise where you end up with more than 3 players from 1 team, then you must make transfers.
Team value must not exceed 50 million.
Teams must be entered to the Chief Executive(me) at the very latest before kick off 12.45 on the 11th August 2007.
Late entries will still be considered for entry, though points fines will be imposed for such cases. 1 week late will cost that weeks points, 2 weeks will cost 2 weeks pts etc.
No more than three strikers and no less than three defenders can be played.

2. Transfers
You have a maximum 16 transfers to make during the season, this will be split in to 2 transfer windows.
A maximum of 7 can be made up to December 31st
A maximum of 7 can be made from January 1st onwards
You have 2 emergency transfers that can be used in either window should the need to use them arise.
If you do not use your full allocation during any of the windows, then those transfers are lost, they cannot be carried over.
Transfer cut off is every Friday at 17.00hrs, these will take effect from the following Wednesday. Any received after this time will take effect the Wednesday after.

3. Scoring Points:
All points are based on the Daily Telegraph scoring system.

i) The Good
+2 pts for full appearances (on the pitch for the entire game)
+1 pt for part appearances (subbed on or off)
+3 pts for a Key Contribution (playing a significant part in setting up a goal)
+5 pts for scoring a goal (including penalty shoot outs)
+5 pts for being The Daily Telegraph Man of the Match

ii) Goalkeepers and defenders only:
+4 pts for a full match clean sheet
+2 pts for a part clean sheet (not conceding a goal during a part appearance)
+5 pts for a penalty save (goalkeepers only, including penalty shoot outs)

iii) The Bad
-5 pts for missing a penalty (including penalty shoot-outs)
-3 pts for an own goal
Goalkeepers and defenders only:
-1 pt per goal conceded (not including shootouts)

iv) The Ugly
-5 pts for being sent off
-2 pts for being booked

The Windy City Waterboys* will be back to see if lightning really can strike twice.

If anyone wants to pick a team quicker, you can use this automatic sheet on the web here, it'll only let you do a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, but at least the menus are a bit clearer and it will do your adding up for you.

btw, I just want to add that I wont be changing the players clubs this year in the list. e.g. Tevez is listed as a West Ham player and will stay as that all season.

I'm defo in, but I'm off on holidays when the deadline arrives, so I'll have to live with the disadvantage of a personal August 3rd deadline.

Who else besides Mr. Lions and Mr. Jake are in?

I'll hand over the cash, not know who 3/4 of the players are, waste my first 3 transfers on getting injured/transferred players out that I mistakenly picked, not understand the scoring system and then lose interest towards the end when I don't have any chance of winning.

As far as a disadvatage of putting a team in by the third, the only one I can see is that if you get injuries before the season starts. I've picked 8 of my starting 11 from the current player list, I'm still undecided on Strikers so far. There is plenty to choose from!

Augustiner United is proud to announce they once over want to play a big role in this years fight for the title. The management board agreed on investing 50 million TT£ on new player material and are convinced the crowd @ Landberger Road will be more than pleased with the outcome.

Yep, Expat 11 will be trying to improve on last season's finish. As chairman of Expat 11, I have full confidence in the manager.

By my count, we're at 9. Hopefully we'll have some more join in over the next two weeks. If anyone is passing on this because you haven't followed the Premiership before, I can assure you that it is not the disadvantage that you'd think.

I have my first draft lineup set. Nothing to do now but agonize about it.

I've spent the whole bloody morning deliberating, and I'm no nearer a final line-up than when I started.

I'm wondering, is Yorkie up for this again? What about our American Citah fan, Kaiserf? What about the regulars like Rus, Crowes and Crawlie (2005-6 Champion)? JOB? Who are the Superschnucks? Any new entrants?

I will be up for this, I have just been too goddam busy recently to reply.
I will sort my team out soon, and let's hope working weekdays up here in Toon'land doesn't influence me too much!
Mind you I think I managed to cancel out the local hype last night, a little juant down the A1 to watch the Mighty Whites at Sunny Darlington was a reality check, lots more places like that on the agenda, although even there we had nearly 1500 fans for a pre-season friendly! Nice little stadium too! All we need now is our League share back...

Mr Lions, I believe you never managed to transfer my winnings from last year, if that is correct, consider me paid up! And Oct 2nd and New Years Day 2008, the biggest dates of the Toytown season! The Puddings will be trying to improve on their Champions League placing of last season!

DevilsFC will be back again this year and will go for an all out assault at the title . Have already paid up from my last years winnings and will send in the team by next week.

Have a doubt regarding the team selection: if you dont change the players clubs if they switch clubs, then effectively I can have more than 3 players from the same club in my team. So I can have 4 Man U players right now, and maybe more in case of some other clubs??? That will be unfair on other people.

It all swings in roundabouts though doesnt it. If I have 3 Liverpool players and then they buy Heinze, If I change the players clubs, it would mean that I then have 4 from the same team and it forces me to do transfers, plus it might happen at a time when I dont have any transfers left?

Welcome back TDH, but stick to the rules. The limit of 3 players per premiership team adds to diversity between FFL teams.

@Sharpe(And everyone else) - There is no limit on the number of people that can enter. More people means more prize money for everyone. The link to the team sheet is on the 1st page of this thread. Just get me your teams before KO next Saturday.

Gonna give it chance for all the transfers to settle down, hopefully the DT will bring them all in by next week.

Oh yeah, need a new phonetic dictionary to try and pronounce the names of all City's new players.

I believe the correct pronounciation of the collective noun is wank, bluedave.

I think the player list has been updated to include most of Svens Foreign Army? Its hard to tell from the pdf.

Use this LINK, its an interactive player form. Its also easy to sort the player columns in to team/value etc. So you can easily tell if the new guys are in or not.

do i have to save money for transfers or can i sell 1 player and use that money to get another?

Its up to you, you have 50m to spend on your team. Just note your team value can never exceed this. You can either spend it all, or you might find that after picking you XI, that you have some left over. if you drop someone, you get the money back to spend on the replacement.

Already in several FF setups with UK office and online.. Cant believe I will subject myself to another 48 hours of constant team analysis torture.

For your information (and it appears Mr. Lions hasn't mentioned it) all monies are returned for success. It was €25,- to enter last season with 24 entrants and Joliet Jake, DAMN HIM, took away the €300 Champion pot. The other €300 was split between Manager of The Month prizes (for the highest score in a month) and 2nd, 3rd and 4th places. I'm sure it will follow the same trend this season.

I had wondered...

Manager of the month seem fair, gives those bottom placed teams a chance of glory. I'm off to pick my elite now..

Thats 16 confirmed (400€) . I've sent a mail out to last seasons players, hopefully we'll hear from all them again.

I havent officially decided how the prize money will be distributed this year, but Sin is correct. Every cent that you send me goes in to the prize pot. I'll think about how I'm splitting the pot when we know how many are taking part.
