I saw a good offer for some new Hi Fi speakers in HiFi-Profis in Frankfurt last week. €79 for KEF Cresta 2's. I thought is was a great price, so I called and reserved a set.
Went to collect them on Saturday and the price was for one, yes, one loudspeaker. OK, the price was very low for these, but I could not believe they would see a single loudspeaker. They are made in pairs, come in a box of 2 and 2 are needed (at least) for stereo sound.
Anyway, i bought 2.
Was I naive? Do other shops in other places price their speakers in singles? Are there many people in Germany that are deaf in one ear?

When I first moved here I went for some nicely priced Yamaha speakers (I ended up taking them back, they were shit so I got some nice MB Quartz speakers that are still sweet 6 years on).
So I went up to get the Yamahas, as a pair naturally, and they came in a box of two like yours did. Then I was stung with the 2* on the bill. This was at Media Markt. I am guessing it's normal but it still makes no sense to me.

Went through the same process with a pair of bright and blissful KEF iQ3s. Beats me why they do it, it can only make for grumpy customers who think they were had.

Sounds strange. Maybe you should have tried to buy one to call their bluff.

In the UK, active studio monitors are frequently sold individually. I've never heard of hi-fi speakers being sold as singles.

The only rationale I can possibly see for not selling the speakers in pairs is, let's say you brought a pair of really nice Infinity speakers and one blows and you only need one speaker replaced but you can't get one replaced because they are sold only in pairs. If you sell the speakers individually it makes it easier for one to be replaced if necessary.

Good thinking LR. Maybe they should start selling shoes that way on the same basis.

That would be a good theory if it was not for the fact that you can only buy them in pairs (1 product box has 2 speakers). At least for myself and for bobD, this was the case, so it still makes no sense to advertise the price as being for just one.
