After more than 7 years in Munich I discovered a wonderful new corner of the city this weekend. With the In-laws, myself and the family headed over to Westpark for the Internationale Sommerfest on Sunday. I guess many of you already know about the park because of "Kino, Mond un Sterne" which is hosted here, but for me it was a first.

The park itself was established as part of the "Internationalen Gartenschau 1983", just like the BUGA we had here in 2005. If you want a little bit more background on the park itself there is a short entry in Wikipedia HERE (only in German).

Anyway, wandering around the park we ended up at the Rosengarten restaurant and Biergarten. The Biergarten itself is not huge but has a lovely view over the lake and is located right next to the "ornamental" rose gardens. The prices are also very reasonable, especially for drinks. A Maß of Paulaner Weißbier costs €4,90, with a standard half litre costing €2,50. I can't remember when I last found a beer that cheap in Munich.

Other major plus points for this park are the fact that you can BBQ in various locations and if you are with your kids their is a great playground and paddling pool located very close to the Biergarten. Also, a number of the themed national displays created for the garden show are open to view (e.g. Japan, China, Nepal). Apparently there is also a Kneipp treatment center but we didnt find it.

All in all a great afternoon and I can highly recommend it.
