Edeka charged me for chocolate I didn't buy

The check-out girl stole it for herself

Hi all!
I've just arrived home after shopping at EDEKA in Taufkirchen/Unterhaching.
I usualy do not look at the receipt after buying something (big mistake).
This evening when we were already home, my girlfriend accidentaly saw that on the receipt there is an item we did not bought (a fancy chocolate thing of about 4 euros).
If you are familiar with the system at this particular EDEKA, you will now that there is a person (in our case a girl) wich scan your products first, you get your receipt (invoice) and then you go to the cashier to actually pay it.
We realised that the girl who scanned the products, deliberately put that item on our bill, just to have that chocolate for herself later.
It's impossible to be a mistake because there was no one else in line at the time and that chocolate was the second item on our bill.
I know 4 euros it's not end of the world but the act of somebody enjoying money that I've worked for is outrageus.
Quite sure we are not the only ones that got robbed that way.
What do you suggest me to do? I'm thinking of trying to catch her in the act next time.
Be careful, it's a jungle out there !

BZZT!!! You lose the luggage and the all-expenses paid trip to Acapulco.

If she doesn't have the receipt for the chocolate, she's in trouble. Store employees go through special check-outs, normally with a manager OK and get stickers attached to the items which will be consumed in-store.

Looks like a simple accident to me, coupled with someone who wants to make big climby things out of little mouse-like piles of dirt.

woof.
BirdBrain
Sorry for your trouble. Most stores have the "check before you leave" policy, so this may just be a lesson. If you are a regular customer, you may try to have a talk with the manager. I always check each item as it is scanned, as sometimes the item is on sale and it hasn't been registered into the system.
Lavender Rain
Take the receipt back to the store and speak with the manager and explain the situation and kindly request to be reimbursed the euros and next time look unsure.gif at your receipt prior to leaving the store as I know you will do the next time shopping there. It's really not the amount of the money it's the fact that you didn't get to eat that cake and should not be responsible for paying for us.

I understand your dissapointment but it's a bit of a leap from there to start accusing the checkout girl isn't it? blink.gif

I'm sure that that chocolate it's from the stand near the counter and she does not have to go out with it. She could just eat it inside the store, for example. It's just a snack after all.
Believe me that we were first thinking that it was an accident and maybe we forgot something there. But it's not like that, we didn't took any chocolate item this evening.
I've allready said it's not the end of the world. If I would consider it a big thing I would maybe cancel my daytrip tomorrow just to try and resolve the thing. But 4 euros does not deserve the effort.
I'm sure that this is the same thing that girl is counting on. Nobody will return there to try and get 4 euros back. Anyway I will be more carefull next time I buy something. And also I will look for the specific barcode next time I will be at that EDEKA.
And another thing, you do not know me so please refrain from making such comments!

Hi Dave, you can call it paranoia if you want, but I'm from the Wild Wild East and believe me I know how this things work.
Mainly I'm mad at myself for letting my guard down while beeing in so called more civilized countries!

You do not know nthe girl, so refrain from making such comments about her! She, unlike you, is not here to defend herself.
Furthermore, you have posted your allegations on an open forum. Anyone else is free to openly make any comments or assumptions they like about your assumptions.

I personally think you are jumping to conclusions. Possibly correct, much more likely wrong and genuine accident. I have sometimes been charged for something I didn't buy. On the other hand, sometimes I haven't been charged, or have been charged too little, for something I did buy. All of this I assume to be mistakes, easily made. The only way to be sure is to chck your bill every time before leaving the supermarket. And by the way, my ASSUMPTION is actually that a lot of Germans do exactly this, and 4 € is in fact a big deal; I have been held up in queues whle someone got a STORNO on an item that was overcharged by something under 1€ - quite often.

I don't think there's much you can do once you've left the shop. Next time, check your receipt before you proceed to pay, or scan your items yourself. I believe you can do that in the Taufkirchen Edeka.

Well, in fact at least I've met that girl in person, then at the counter.
I've made this thread also to let you know this can happen in here.
If you don't believe, it's another matter and then I can recommend you to go to Prague and take the subway, you can stay in peace because nobody will empty your pockets while travelling from Mustek to Krizikova... nobody...

Yeah, you can scan it your self.
Maybe 4 Euro is the tax for beeing lazy... tongue.gif

Seriously, you make it sound like the girl pointed a gun at you saying "gimme the chocolate!" and from the topic you're making it look like there's a whole lot of cashiers who deliberately put things on your bill. Just accept that you paid 4 euro's more this time, and like mentioned above it happens as well that they forget to scan something. Are you going to make a stand then and say I owe you a euro back because I had this and this item as well??

Apparently not...

Off to get some chocolate... tongue.gif

Hey, that's not true: she worked hard to get your 4 Evros, so stop feeling outraged.
If you can't: get a lawyer and sue those bastards. bring them to a court of law and teach them a lesson: nobody, but nobody!! can mess with you. That will frighten them a bit, I think

That's 2 counts of xenophobia against Czechs Aero; Bad Doggie can growl a little bit but you are not exactly helping your case.

wow.. That wasn't so muchs a jump but a full on running leap to a conclusion. rolleyes.gif

Choc could still be at the check out because you forgot to pack it.. Or there could be a mistake with Edeka scanning and labeling... Was there something you bought that wasn't listed for example... Hell let me jump to my own conclusion. The Misses ate the chocolate and then felt guilty so made out it was never in the bag wink.gif

Still, that edekka is the best store in Munich... I'm sure the number of expats shopping in there, outnumber the German shoppers !!
MonksTown
NB: Taufkirchen / Unterhaching is NOT Munich tongue.gif
potbelly
I stand corrected... Best store in & AROUND Munich !!! smile.gif

It wasn't the check out girl, it was obviously the dodgy shelf-stocker guy who clearly knows how to hack into computers and has covertly programmed the checkouts to add 12 items of chocolate at random times throughout every 24 hour period which he then collects and sells to school children for a profit. What a cunning little bastard! Lucky we're onto him.
iain
ok b'ys I think we should all run down to the local Edeka and bitch slap those shelf-stockers! They have to be guilty because they are foreign and obviously educated (all foreigners are) so must be the only people that could pull off such a scam in Edeka. If we don't go and do this know it will get out of hand! They are obviously working in gangs, this week four euros next week four hundred. Who's with me?!?

So I guess you're not a big fan of the Finanzamt, either. wink.gif
