If you are wondering what to do this weekend make a note to stroll down the pedestrian zone on Sunday afternoon/evening. The Bavarian Volunteer Youth and radio broadcaster Bayern 3 are hosting a three-day competition called "Drei Tage Zeit für Helden" throughout Bavaria to promote volunteer activities. Every region has received a task, be it setting up a playground or creating a bible-based theme park (yes, you really read that) for a retirement home. Bayern 3 is covering the whole three days and nights live with local correspondents reporting, interviews with the participants and videos and podcasts on their homepage. They also broadcast any requests for either free material or volunteer professional help at the half hour.

Munich’s group drew what looks like an easy task: Create a multi-course meal from your given country, provide typical entertainment and decorate your stand accordingly. Sounds easy until you draw Chile: The group has requested Bayern 3 to broadcast a desperate request for – a llama. So if you have a live llama in your garage or garden, contact Bayern 3 at 01805-333007.

The meals will be served on what may be the longest buffet in the world, reaching from Marienplatz to the Richard Strauss fountain, close to Stachus. If you want to make a donation and partake of delicacies from just about anywhere contact 089-51410665 or register in person with the temporary office on Frauenplatz (in front of the Frauenkirche) between 9am and 10pm today, Friday 13 July, or tomorrow, Saturday 14 July.

My neighbour has arranged for the Kindergarten Rappelkiste in Hallbergmoos to have a new play area created. The team from Evangelische Jugend Neufahrn und Hallbergmoos have been there since Friday helping out.
