Bus drivers' special training before getting a job

Anyone else noticed they all drive like nutters?

Every bus ride I take is the same,it's like a race to every bus stop.

Anybody else found that?

No so much that but the violent, uneven braking. I can understand the driving fast because they have a schedule to keep, but it shouldn't be a hardship for a professional driver to brake smoothly.

The worst ones are those that drive the Stanglmaier buses that ferry BMW personell from the sticks into Munich, they drive like absolute lunatics in the city. Much too fast, overtaking and then pulling in in front and standing on the brakes because they now want to turn right, not that they bother to signal to tell you where they are going! I'm amazed they don't have loads of accidents.

As someone who has a public service vehicle license I was surprised how easy it is to obtain. Among other things a 2-hour computer based test for reaction, sight and observing dangerous situations. I think some drivers interpret this as an opportunity to re-create the dangerous situations they have seen simulated on screen...

Yet another bus ride at the weekend, were shall we say it was an experience.

The smooth breaking I find most important, I don't get why some bus drivers don't do it, can't be that much harder than when driving a car. And in a bus there are often people standing and no one has a seat belt, so it is so much more important than when driving a car.

The abrupt braking and acceleration is bad enough but my pet personal peeve with the bus service is when the bastards close the doors on your face after you have run hell for leather to catch the bus and then look you squarely in the eyes as you plead to be allowed on and just shake their head and carry on. mad.gif

Well being out in the sticks where the roads are a bit narrower I have to say I am impressed by how well they drive those huge monstrosities and to be fair they are rarely late. But I am a bit like Dave I always just reach the Ubahn at exactly the moment the door closes in my face.

You are referring to the MVG public transport buses? Well, riding a public bus is as a matter of fact a lot faster in Germany than in the US. Everytime I'm using public buses in the US, I am wondering why they have to drive at such a low speed. It always feels like it takes 10 minutes for 5 blocks. I suppose they can't go any faster at all because the ice-cold A/C is using up a third of the whole engine power.
In Munich, A/Cs are either not installed (buses built until 2001) or used very economically (buses built 2001 or later), thus more engine power remains for the actual driving, enabling the bus dirver to go for a much faster speed.
