Tourist lodging in Munich

Personal recommendations for accommodation

Hi -
I am travelling to Garmish and Munich in a few months and wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations for lodging. Safety is my main concern, followed by price and cleanliness. If anyone has any insight it would help me greatly...I have been looking on the internet, but who knows. Thanks much.

Its a bit vague your post. How about mentioning length of time staying, price range, etc. And safety isn't going to be much of a concern anywhere that you go here.

basically everything in Munich and Garmisch is safe

Munich is generally very safe, although it still is a city so things can always happen.

It would help if you gave some indication of how much money you were considering spending, what kind of accommodation you were considering and what places you want to visit or travel to. There's literally hundreds of options.

Also, do you mean short-term or long-term accommodation, furnished or unfurnished?

Edit - feck, too slow!

I am staying about 5 days in Munich and looking for the cheapest place to stay that is safe and clean. (This trip is on a tight budget) I have never been to Munich and therefore, I don't really know where to start. I am looking for lodging with a good value. safe, clean and reasonably priced. Ideally, I would like to spend no more than 70 euro a night for 2 people (if that is possible).

Also, I want to go to Garmisch and will probably like to visit that area for at least 2 days. Do you think it is worth staying in Garmisch, or is it close enough to make 2 day trips via train?

sounds like you are looking for a hostel then.

Have a look at these threads, if you do a search you will find these and many more threads with the same question ...
hostels
accommodation
more hostels
cheap hotels

Hostels often have private rooms, so don't presume you will be in a big room with loads of other people. Check out the individual places to see if they have what you are looking for. Around the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) can look a bit dodgy but I've never felt unsafe or scared there yet.

you can get a room near the main station for less than that. Which isn't great, and is in Munich's sort of 'red light district', but is certainly safe

i will consider staying just about anywhere...hotels, hostels, camping in a cabin, apartments or guest houses. This is just one stop on our trip and I just want to be sure that I can lock up my belongings while I am out for the day, either in a room or in a locker. I am open to all suggestions.
I am not going to have access to a car, so I would like a place near some sort of transportation, be it a train or bus. My itinerary includes the marienplatz, the hofbrauhau, looking at architecture of churches and castles and visiting museums.

You're very welcome!

Just to warn you, this thread may be merged soon with the others as the moderators are very efficient in avoiding duplicate threads with the same questions.

So if you want to look at this information later or in the future, type in your query in the search box in the top-right corner of this screen. "Hotel Munich" or "hostel munich" should throw up the information you need. There's tons more information on this site about places to go too, enjoy your trip!
