That's a bit pricey, but what a voice, the tones... oh I am tempted.
And the sound in that venue will be marvellous.
Hmmm.

Should sell out so buy quickly those that wish to attend.

QUOTE
When Rufus Wainwright was preparing to go to Berlin last summer to record his new album, the first he would produce himself, he envisioned it as “a kind of pared down bare bones affair. But something dramatically different took hold once Wainwright got there, as opening track “Do I Disappoint You, which boasts an impressive orchestral sweep to match the sturm und drang of the lyrics, amply illustrates.

“Some people go to Berlin to get more cutting edge, I went and started wearing lederhosen and going to visit baroque palaces, Wainwright recounts with a laugh. “The Germany I was enthused with was more old fashioned and kind of romantic. I just got there, and the next thing you know, I had this huge gilded album. It was kind of an amazing experience because I didn’t intend it to be that way.

MonksTown
Eye candy enough for €45 I suppose. wink.gif
berny
dont get me wrong, i love rufus wainright, but i dont love rufus as much as rufus loves rufus.

and i dont know if i want to pay minimum 45 euro to hear a guy ramble on and on about how gay he is and how great it is to be gay and how terrible it must be to be straight.

ill just go buy the cd.

(this from an ardent believer that live music is 1000029372 times better than anything that has ever been recorded.)

Rufus live is hard to beat - seen him alone on the stage as the opening act to Sting and also with his band in a small venue in MUC two years ago. His gay celebrations don't seem to stop the girls from going gaga and throwing their undies at him - everybody joins in for the Rufus celebrations! Anyhow. Have a 7th row ticket on the left hand side where he will be positioned to sell at the normal price since I'll be joining bf in the back of the Herkulessaal. Pm me if interested.
Katrina
Have a 3rd row ticket up for grabs at face value due to a late drop-out - PMs please for details.

Am having a bit of toruble describing this one.
But bear with me.
His voice is truly incredible, all honey and warmth, it is just beautiful.
And then he speaks. It doesn't go together, the mincing giggle and the glorious golden tones, his singing voice appears to be beamed in by aliens or something.

Anyway, imagine a cruise ship manned by burly sailor boys in hotpants. Your captain would be Baz Luhrmann and Jake Shears would pour the cocktails with Kylie all Showgirl-led up perching at the end of the bar, resplendent in shimmer and sad about yet another man that did her wrong.
For such a setting, Rufus would be the piano man.

In a world of very gay things, Rufus is pinker than the rest.
But oh so very magical.

From the elegant sweep of "Release the Stars", the beauty of "The Art Teacher", from "Cigarettes & Chocolate Milk" to "Broken Hallelujah", onwards to the Judi Garland dance number finale done in fishnets, heels, sparkles and bloodbath-red lipstick with legs to give any gal depression, he was certainly more diamond than diamanté.
Great pair of Lederhosen too.

EDIT: But what the hell did that gal think she was doing during "Between My Legs"? Selbstüberschätzung der eigenen Person, oder?

Nice review Katrina... just adding my 2c worth...

- Camp as Christmas
- 4 costume changes (if you count a dressing gown as one)
- Very strange, but entertaining, bit with the Youtube competition winner
- Nice venue but maybe not for gigs, as the sound was a bit muffled - although Rufus' voice was clear.

All in all, not the cheapest or the best gig I've been to but deffo worth it.
Boba
Thanks for the reviews. I know now to definitely avoid him should he ever turn up on a line-up somewhere... smile.gif

I went to one of his concerts in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago, and this sounds just like it. Very entertaining, extremely camp - especially the bit with the lederhosen. We also had Rufus' musings on pre-Raphaelite paintings and British gay porn (WTMI). The audience was full of women of a certain age, for some reason.

You mention the dressing gown - did you also have the apparent encore where he comes on in a dressing gown, does a quick change into a Chicago-esque outfit, and the band comes on and does a dance routine in black tie and hard hats? blink.gif
