Sweeeeeeeet
This is gonna be an amazing concert. It's at the Bayrischer Hof night club:
Promenadeplatz 2-6
80333 München
on July 18th at 9pm.
Unfortunately tickets are like €35. Anyone else going? I'm tryin to decide if it's worth the money. What is this venue like?

Thanks for posting, had no idea that this was on. I would be very interested in going along, although - like you say - 35EUR is pretty steep. Will give it some thought.

Excuse my ignorance, but is Medeski from Medeski, Martin & Wood?

Yep. MM&W have released a couple of albums together with John Scofield -
A Go Go (1998) and
Out Louder (2006), both of which are great. Looking at the
MM&W website, "The Johns" are only playing 5 concerts in Europe. I'm booking my ticket right now. Oh, and I'm down for pre-concert drinks fo sho if anyone else decides to invest their life savings in a ticket.

I went to a show at the Bayerischer Hof nightclub last October. I saw the Groove Collective there. The band rocked, but it was probably the worst concert I've ever been to in my life*. The place was DEAD. Like my friend and I were there, and two other couples, and that was it. The band had us outnumbered. And we're talking about a group that can pull some fine attendance in NYC, or elsewhere in the U.S. I couldn't help but blame it on the place. It was stodgy. Plus the presentation (not the performance itself) seemed half-hearted.
But maybe the Groove Collective's appeal just doesn't translate overseas? Who knows. I've seen John Scofield live a couple of times and he puts on a good show, and though I haven't seen Madeski live I've heard good things. I'd consider going if I were in Munich, but the venue would definitely make me think twice after my previous experience there.
Oh, and don't be surprised if drinks run about €10 a pop. And expect that you'll be expected to order one by the waiter, though I doubt he can force you to take something.
*For those interested, the second worst I've been to was Herbie Hancock back in Philly. I'd always liked his music, but everything he played made it seem like he'd gotten drunk on the bullshit praise for him over the years. Nothing pisses me off more than a jazz musician giving a concert but refusing to acknowledge the audience's presence. I don't care if you made "Head Hunters". I didn't pay $80 for premo seats to have you act like an a$$hole. [/end rant]
