A bunch of relatives are coming to visit in 2 weeks and want to know the best way to get a handy for over here... int he US there are disposable cell phones...does that exist here?
Or would it just make the most sense to get a prepaid card for one of my old phones and let them use that? Anyone know how this works with o2? Thanks.

O2 do prepaid phones from 30 euros so maybe this is aiming at the same market as the US throwaway phones.
See
www.o2online.de for the offers.
My folks bought phones here for 29 € including 5€ credit and they just top up as the require when here.

Same thing here... I got a pretty decent O2 Phone for 30 euros, which included a 5 euro credit. Since incoming calls are free, that will probably be good enough. You can load it up with 15 euros to be safe by buying a little card.
Don't forget to bring your passport when you buy the phone though, they need an ID.

Ok the o2 thing sounds good... I couldn't find anything on their website..whats their prepaid plan called? Maybe its just too much German this early in the morning

But I figured going with o2 would be the best since hubby and I both have o2. How does it work if you already have a phone and just want to get the prepaid cards?

You can get a
O2 Loop Card from any O2 shop. With a additional 5 EUR, you can call fixed lines and O2 numbers for free over the weekend.
EDIT - The weekend flatrate is free when you buy only the card for 14.99 EUR.
