For the past few weeks we've had a slightly bad smell coming from the kitchen drain. Not eye-watering but not pleasant. The cabined underneath the sink smells fine, as do the insides of both the dishwasher and the washing machine. We've tried the Domol slow drain stuff, but that's not helped (the drain works fine, but we thought the foaming would help clean it out).
Can anyone offer any advice on other products or methods that may help? I've tried to search, but have only found posts about slow drains.
Thanks
Carm

keep flushing out the drains, could just be a curve in the pipes that has some crap built up and it smells.
Fill the sink with water then drain, do this every day for a few days and the smell should disappear.

Yeah, I have that too. and we don't even live in Paris!
I have found nothing has helped except running the water a long time. basically it's stench coming up through the sewer. perhaps the curved part in the sink dried up.

Heave a box of baking soda down the drain and pour hot water down after it slowly. You should find baking soda at
Schlecker,
Rossmann or other German-type drugstores. Look for Natron.
Do this once a month if the smell reoccurs.
Personally, I think CilitBang is vile and a health hazard (chemical burns down the oesophagus from the fumes). Soda is natural and works on the same principle.

I'd never heard about doing that kind of thing with baking soda before. The other week I took some frozen prawns out and popped them in the microwave for safe-keeping while they defrosted. Completely forgot about them until the smell of decay started wafting through the apartment. Put a box of baking soda into the microwave and in a matter of a few hours the death-smell was gone. Crackin' stuff that.

Bicarbonate of Soda flushed down with vinegar - wait a while and then run hot water.

Once you've unblocked the drain, you could try putting coffee grounds down it regularly to keep it clear.

I can vouch for the vinegar and boiling water method.

DO NOT stick a high-powered vacuum cleaner down the plug-hole in an attempt to clear any blockages. I've heard that can have very nasty results.

Now who would do such a thing?

Urine will work, make sure it is more on the basic end (pH7+) for best results.

Thanks for all the good advice, everyone. I actually tried Carm's original suggestion, and that worked well. I filled the sink completely, covering up the excess flow drain as well (the one high up on the side of the sink) so that it gets flushed as well, and then let it drain. Did it a couple of times over 2 days and the problem seems to be fixed.
