After looking out of my window, I have a desperate need for a feel-good thread. What do you love about Munich? Even an unsurpassable moaner like myself likes this city when the weather plays along (..).

My favourites are:
The Isar
The English Garden
Beergardens
The Bavarian Alps
The sheer amount of various species of birds stopping over on our balcony in the middle of town every morning
The 3 of 4 squirrels running around on our balcony in the middle of town every morning
The location: Perfect for quickly getting away from

What are yours? Do you have photos to share with us to back your statements up?

The surroundings as well. On a short distance the beautiful landscapes, and a bit further, the ability to be outside in a totally different country within 1-2 hours of driving.

Munich actually gets twice as much rainfall as London in the summer.

According to Wikipedia, July is the driest month of the year in London, whereas in Munich, it is the wettest month of the year. Never would have thought... blink.gif

It drizzles a lot in London though, whereas summer storms here normally pour down. I wouldn't say that the number of hours of sunshine would be more in London than here in Munich.. can't find stats to back this up though..

According to Auntie BeeB Munich has 8 hours Sunshine and London 6.

The white filigree work of hoarfrost on tree branches against a backdrop of winter mist.
The flaming blossoms of chestnut trees in the Biergärten.
The silky air on summer nights following baking hot days.
The crisp, clear autumn air that lets you see for miles and miles.
Seasons, their typical appearances and the festivities belonging to each one.

Things I love about munich?

The snow in winter.
The sun in summer.
(and please not the other way round!!!)

then:
- Leberkaes
- The view of the alps when we have Foen
- The colours in autumn
- The "marder" that ate half of my car.
- The u-bahn coming every 5 minutes
- The way girls (un)dress in spring.
- The pheasant I try to roadkill every summer.

and many many other things...

Coming along the Auffahrtsallee either early in the morning or at dusk and seeing this:

Peeking through the railings to see the public gardens at Allianz HQ next to the Englischer Garten.
Riding the 19 tram at night around Maxmonument while looking backwards and seeing greywallgreywallgreywallgreywall *stunning yellow architectural beauty lit in splendour*.
The Glockenspiel and cheering for the Bavarian jouster that knocks over Austria.
The balcony at the Rathaus full of geraniums in summer and carol singers in winter.
The lions with the rings that people rub for luck at Odeonsplatz.
Indian Summer trips to the lakes.
Hofgarten.
Low light polution so you can see the stars at night.
People being outdoors instead of stuck inside an office, a pub, a car.
Seeing the Alps when there's Föhn and which makes them look like a film-set prop.
That there were two street festivals in my road two weeks ago and my neighbours and people from the stores in my road called me over to say hi and have a drink. The same neighbours and storekeepers who wave when I go past and I wave back at.
That when I open the blinds in the morning, I can see a building with a spring onion turret and some trees and sky.
And...
That many of my dearest friends are here.

I'm from Berkeley, California, where there are lots of vegetarians and restaurants that cater to them. This makes it tough for a carnivore like me. However, in Munich, I can get lots of meat--steak, sausage, whatever. Mmmmm.

Cycle paths-> beergadrens-> and more predictable weather than Britain. (The combination is good)

Also, Munich has some nice big companies. So for work reasons Munich is good. For me its mostly BMW.

Hi, I had a visit to Munich last August. It was a wonderful trip. I really love the weather and the enviroment. Peoples are friendly. I like to hang around in English garden and to Marienplatz. But the most beautiful places is Domagk - the huge housing area with alot of green.
Ddajleng
the shops are open till 8 o'clock, enough time to do shopping!

My likes about Munich: a very livable, friendly and orderly city... all the advantages of the big city with a small town feel to it...people watching @ Odeonsplatz or Marienplatz... Weissbier! And green... oh so green with its parks and gardens!!

Also, what a wonderful atmosphere. Everybody's so friendly and open.
It's so multicultural
Always something to do - a fest for every season, a restaurant for every budget
It's safe
Wonderful distinct seasons
A great city for every age

Munich seems like an exceedingly well-preserved city, or well-rebuilt, at least.
Alt-Perlach is amazing. There are houses here which are over 500 years old, and they have little plaques describing what the house used to be.
I live in a huge condo shaped like the old houses. I have a little wooden balcony! Everything seems to be made of wood around here!
And such a cute little stream! Hachinger Bach, they call it.
Everything is so green! It's like every street has trees in it, and some have multiple rows of trees.
They have forests that stretch for MILES, and a crazy amount of parks, plus there are flowers everywhere, people decorate their houses with HUNDREDS of flowers.
Plus everybody cycles. It's flat, and bike lanes are everywhere, even outside the city, and even in places where there aren't any, people drive carefully and yield to me.
They even have little plaques telling you where you are in the middle of the Perlacher Först. And maps.
Public transportation is also awesome...
bluedave
Glad you love it here eggy, easy to take the piss but happy that you feel the same about the town that I call home .
