Guys, if any of you have motorbikes, this is the season for these idiots to start stealing them and selling them on in a different country.

I had my 2007 R1 stolen on saturday, along with three other bikes in the garage, so try to be a little more cautious. sad.gif

Wow... I didn't think this kind of thing was too common here..

my driving school just keeps them parked at night out front. Which seemed unsafe to me, but they haven't had problems. (ok, perhaps no one wants to steal a fahrschule bike, but they only had a steering lock on them).

What about your bikes? They were in a garage? How'd they get in/out? Were they chained to anything? How does insurance with for theft?

Mine was in the teif-garage, with a disk lock and steering lock. police said that they followed someone inside the garage with a trailor or a van and used a wrench to break the cages inside the garage.

They also mentioned that it was organised and that it was the 6th time a motorbike theft has been reported in the past 2 weeks.

The Insurance company havent really said much as yet, but im sure to encounter some problems.

sorry to hear that. I always watch in my rearview mirror to see if anybody is following me in the tief garage, and I try to go slow as not to let them in. Being a women sometimes I am more cautious about those things.
Good luck with the Insurance company.

It's amazing how much theft goes on in tiefgarages, I know a couple of people who've had their cars broken into whilst they were locked up in the tiefgarage. I guess the thieves are hidden from the general public and can usually hear if somone is coming. As for the insurance, don't accept their first offer, they are bandits and will try to screw you over.

What Allershausen said. We had the summer tires/rims for our 5 series stolen from the tief garage (our neighbor did too). The insurance company said they would not cover it because the garage was not locked. Well, the garage is locked. You can't get in there unless you have a key or remote. We fought it. We didn't win, but we got the money back in a different way wink.gif

Sorry to hear about your loss. It's really irritating.

Sorry to hear that your bike got stolen. It's hard to believe such things happen in Munich...

I always wondered if it would be covered if you leave stuff in your part of the garage. My parking place is on the 4th level underground, and every time I drive in there, I am surprised by the stuff that people leave out there. Bikes, car racks, ski's, boots, tyres, etc. I have my winter tyres there as well, I might consider rolling them into my keller...

Thats the problem with tiefgarages, once your in, and you only have to follow someone in, you can get out again really easily, with all sorts of stuff. (not that I've ever done such a thing, just saying like...)

and it's dead easy to get in... once a car drives in there, the garage normally doesn't close right after.

As the crime rate is so low, people do things and I've done it myself, like what Sparty alluded to all the time; things which would be borderline irresponsible in many other countries.

Bastards. That really is shit news indeed. Not much bleeding use - but when you get it replaced the latest copy of Bike mag shows the latest systems for GPS tracking.

But sounds like you had taken reasonable precautions, so got caught by evil "professional" bastards. Out here in the sticks I got friends that leave their keys in the bike ignition in an unlocked garage.
