I noticed that there are a lot of things going on at the
Theresienwiese, but shouldn't they start building up for the Oktoberfest by now...??

Damn, Sparty, but you're anxious.
Since the Wies'n has gone off without a hitch for quite a long time, I suspect that everything is under control.
Last year I was there a 10 on the first day and all the tables were gone.
What time this year I wonder will I have to go

Last weekend was the Rewe family fest I believe, as soon as its cleared away its gonna be building time!
Maybe the Oktoberfest logo should go up already? Or does it only go up with O'zapft is!

My daughter was born at the end of July, 2005, just a block from
Theresienwiese. Her dad sneaked her out of the clinic for a walk on the Wies'n grounds when she was 2 days old, and reported back that construction was coming along nicely. So I know they will have started by the end of July.
Here's a gratuitous photo of mini-Cinz enjoying herself AT Oktoberfest that year:

If you go on the first day, you should go between 7am and 8am if you want a table
indoors, depending on the tent you want to get into. You'll have to wait a couple hours, too, before the tents open. I've done it that way the last couple of years, and plan on being there on the first day again this year.

Will go out at lunchtime with the camera
You can always watch the build up at the
Wiesn Webcam (updated every minute).
But hope it does not make you feel too thirsty.
Or watch the 2006 build up from start (July 22nd) to finish in 50 seconds at the

It's a strange idea to ride the bike or walk under these steel constructions with the idea in mind that in two months you won't be able to move because of the crowd

Is the Wiesn Kantine open yet?
Every year before the Oktoberfest opens, one or more tents host a self-service beergarden for the workforce. Cheap beer and food to those building the tents and fairground. But anyone can use it. (I and other passers by never seem to have a problem there)
It's worth a visit when that starts.

I wonder just how much is spent on the building up and breaking down of this small city of honor to the beer gods?

Nope its because he is obviously passing him a bullet full of coke to stick up his nose.
On the other hand, if that bottle had fat written on the side of it I would have said he was a seppo
