I noticed that there are a lot of things going on at the Theresienwiese, but shouldn't they start building up for the Oktoberfest by now...??
Allershausen
You're a little early, but not much. Keydeck took a load of photos last year approx. 51 weeks ago!
JerseyBoy
Damn, Sparty, but you're anxious.

Since the Wies'n has gone off without a hitch for quite a long time, I suspect that everything is under control.
MrT
Last year I was there a 10 on the first day and all the tables were gone.
What time this year I wonder will I have to go
pootle
Last weekend was the Rewe family fest I believe, as soon as its cleared away its gonna be building time!
Gen
Maybe the Oktoberfest logo should go up already? Or does it only go up with O'zapft is!
cinzia
My daughter was born at the end of July, 2005, just a block from Theresienwiese. Her dad sneaked her out of the clinic for a walk on the Wies'n grounds when she was 2 days old, and reported back that construction was coming along nicely. So I know they will have started by the end of July.

Here's a gratuitous photo of mini-Cinz enjoying herself AT Oktoberfest that year:

If you go on the first day, you should go between 7am and 8am if you want a table indoors, depending on the tent you want to get into. You'll have to wait a couple hours, too, before the tents open. I've done it that way the last couple of years, and plan on being there on the first day again this year.

Yes I am... When they start building it, it gets me in the mood for Oktoberfest already smile.gif
Wizadora
Hold your horses! They only took down the Tollwood stuff yesterday...it will come!
pootle
Err??? Summer Tollwood doesnt happen on the oktoberfest site.

It was the rewe family day
JerseyBoy
"... If you build it, he will come..."
sparty
You got that right!
JerseyBoy
Oh, and he'll be there, as well, probably with a similar look on his face. wink.gif
sparty
Stone Cold Steve Austin is coming?? wink.gif
Tom17
Looks like they have started building it.
Keydeck
If you build it they will come.
pootle
Will go out at lunchtime with the camera wink.gif
Jay
You can always watch the build up at the Wiesn Webcam (updated every minute).
But hope it does not make you feel too thirsty. rolleyes.gif

Or watch the 2006 build up from start (July 22nd) to finish in 50 seconds at the Wiesn Webcam Archive
sparty
Yes, they started, I saw the first materials stacked up on my way home yesterday smile.gif
pootle
Here the pictures from lunchtime today

It's amazing what they can do in just a week. Looking at the pictures above and what already stood there yesterday, it's going fast smile.gif
canuck
Was biking through the Wiesn last night, and I can report that they had pretty much all the steel skeletons of each tent up already. Fast eh?
pootle
I'll wander over at lunch time and take some more pics
JerseyBoy
It appears that things are progressing nicely. Here's the latest still from the Wies'n Webcam:

Nice work pootle...
pootle
I really like the photos. I think next week I'll head back down there as the sun is going down (assuming weather is good) and take some more!

Nice pics pootle!

It's a strange idea to ride the bike or walk under these steel constructions with the idea in mind that in two months you won't be able to move because of the crowd smile.gif
Tom17
Aye I love that feeling.. So weird.

@Canuck, they are mostly wood by the way smile.gif (But yes, with steel brackets)
canuck
wood, steel...same shit.
ThePigsInBlankets
Up in Canuckada them trees is made o' steel. Steel trees make the best maple syrup. And back bacon.

Is the Wiesn Kantine open yet?
Every year before the Oktoberfest opens, one or more tents host a self-service beergarden for the workforce. Cheap beer and food to those building the tents and fairground. But anyone can use it. (I and other passers by never seem to have a problem there)

It's worth a visit when that starts.

I wonder just how much is spent on the building up and breaking down of this small city of honor to the beer gods?

Is that because they are holding hands? tongue.gif

Nope its because he is obviously passing him a bullet full of coke to stick up his nose.

On the other hand, if that bottle had fat written on the side of it I would have said he was a seppo tongue.gif
