i've left it a bit late but myself and my good lady are off on our holidays (spain) on friday and we ain't got no travel insurance...

what i'm looking for basically is sickness and repatriation insurance, maybe with baggage insurance aswell, but cancellation insurance isn't really necessary...

i had a look on toytowngermany.com/service/?id=justtravel and got a good cheap quote... but ideally i'd like to get year round cover, as i had when i was at uni, so that i wouldn't have to bugger about before each trip...

anybody got any recommendations?

ADAC
i think it's 36 euros for a year for the whole family...

there's an adac near ostbahnhof and near milbertshofen u-bahn (exit frankfurther ring)
Graham
if you have private medical insurance those things (except baggage) are covered usually.
noddy
yes, i thought that, i'm private but herself is in the AOK...
Graham
the AOK also offer a year round travel health insurance, but from what i hear ADAC is very good

adac: you can sign up at their website. profundo did this. there was a thread on this too. i'm searching, i'm searching
Graham
with the ADAC you chose between two types of insurance. The basic health insurance for abroad costs EUR 13,50 for peeps under 66. They also offer a health and accident insurance for ADAC members. Since I am not a member i could not find out how much this costs.

Traveling with German Insurance

However, when you say ADAC covers you 'abroad' does this include Canada and the USA (most policies do not seem to or the price goes up astronomically)...does anyone know? I am trying to make it through their site...but my German is not good enough (yes appalling I know).

I was in an ADAC branch at Sendlinger Tor and one near Heimeranplatz...both locations had English-speakers...but yes phone calls are usually a no-go (the colleague who *does* speak English is never around).

thanks guys, been in touch with my private insurance guy and i'm covered up to the hilt for health and accident...

will check out the AOK and ADAC extended travel/accident insurance once we get back though...
Graham
@Blimeygirl: ADAC does not cover Germany or the country in which you permenently live. otherwise no restrictions for US or Canada.

I can make you an offer:

Health Insurance for you and your family for a vacation up to 45 days for 20 Euro.

The policy is valid all year round and covers trips up to 45 days.

If you want to add personal accident it is a total of 24,98.

If you need a form to apply for it, let me know: Kretzschmar Insurance

I'm really confused about the pricing system for travel health insurance.

I went to http://www.reiseversicherung.de and got an annual quote for 79EUR. But, of course, that does not cover you for a one-year holiday - only for unlimited max 40 day holidays.

After phoning them up, the quote I got for a one year holiday was 800EUR! Its almost worth me flying back home every 40 days and taking the first option.

Ok, not quite, but does anyone know why the difference is so huge?

On another note, the best I have found for a one year trip is ADAC for 500EUR (over 27 year old non-members), anyone do better?

Thanks for that. Just gave them a call and they quote 10EUR for the first 45 days and then after that its 2.50EUR per day - unfortunately, that's the most expensive so far. Probably covers more than the others but I'm only interested in rock-bottom basic cover.

So far, ADAC wins for journeys of at least 6 months... unless there are any other recommendations?

I used "die Europäische" last year, my stuff was stolen in Peru and when I finally got around to claiming over 13 months later they paid with no hassle at all. I sent in the claim and they sent back the cash. Great!
