Any Skiers in Munich?

In the event that no one has done anything similar, let's get a head count going.

I may have missed the gondola of course, so if there is some sort of ski group already in existence perhaps someone could let me know?

Cheers, aiiiiiiiite.

Yeah - I thought that too actually, the way I see it though it's a good way to get to the slopes on a regular basis for a reasonable price.

anyone intrested in doing a snowboarding course??

I want to find somewhere that will do a weekend english language snow board coure over the winter - could be more fun with a few Toytowners??

I'd be up for some snowboarding lessons, but mostly I think it would be better to just turn up, pay yer money, and get busy falling over on the nursery slope learning as you go.

I was in Garmisch for Easter, that looks pretty accessible for a weekender.

Garmisch is a bit expensive for weekends methinks. All you need to do is drive 1 more hour into austria and the hotels are like 25,- a night. But If you're going a lot, then of course, the closeness to Toytown is important. Maybe we ca get a deal.

I would be on for a course, but would have difficulty going every weekend. Would love to do a single weekend. Maybe take friday off, then go fri, sat, sun? I think you need a few days to get into the swing of it..

Any one with experience (that preferably wasn't born on skis).

Depending on numbers I could probably get a good deal for group weekender bookings in the guesthouse in Garmisch where I know the owners. Fri/Sat/Sun would be good, 2 full days on the piste. I guess for a small group we could find a private instructor for a couple of hours in the mornings but I will talk to the person I know whose parents run the place down there to find out more.

Garmisch is quite nice for skiing (since they had the winter olympics there I guess it would be), and probably also snowboarding. Can't say anything about the courses as I haven't taken one there. The kit rental can be a bit of an arse - last time we went one place was closed (in the middle of the skiing season, I kid you not), the second was "sold out", probably as a result, and so we had to go back down one station on the private railway there to get kitted out. Then we went back to the station we were first at to get the lift. I wouldn't say "never again" but I will certainly think twice about it in future, I reckon we lost over an hour's skiing doing all that farting about. By the way, we usually ski at Alpspitze, not Zugspitze - it saves about an hour in travelling...

In general though, I wouldn't mind doing a day or weekend snowboarding course, depending on price and so on. Assuming there were a bunch of us going it might work out cheaper to travel to Garmisch each day using Schoenes Wochenende tickets than stay there, we'd have to look at the details more closely. If you do wnat to go away for a weekend, SWMBO suggested that we could all go on one of the courses organised by Sport Schuster, which are also weekenders (just not at Garmisch).

should be possible to rent kit in TT so you don't need to bother when you get there

I am up for a w.e. trip but not interested in a course

is it not a bit surreal to be writing about skiing when it is 35 degrees outside?

That's why I started the topic - anything to help me imagine that it isn't 35 degrees!

Never skied at Garmisch (Zugspitze I have skied though - waste of money imo), but I would agree with the poster who said that travelling an extra hour is worth it. Garmisch is at relatively low altitude and thus less likely to get good snow. Last year was a great year of course though, so fingers crossed it might be the same this year, howver, I would travel the extra distance though and head into Austria.
