At the Chinese Tower Saturday, there will be a free big-screen viewing of the Friends of Live Earth Concerts. Featured bands are Black Eyed Peas, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shakira, and the Beastie Boys, a.o. starting at 13:00.
7,112 'Friends of Live Earth' events have now been registered in 129 countries and all 50 states. Friends of Live Earth is an official Live Earth program to raise awareness to the climate crisis.

Ironically, the weather should very be nice for the event. cool.gif
berny
the weathers going to be TOO nice.

theres polar bears starving in africa. what are YOU going to do about it?

ill be there for the first few hours, got the oper für alle thing to look after in the evening though.

i heard Spinal Tap are going to perform...THAT i want to see. but itll probably only be the "superstars" that are televised.

my girl is flying to london as we speak, were on a mailing list to be notified as to when tickets would be available. she got an email a month or two ago saying "tickets have been available since last week" and then they were all gone. should be a cool atmosphere (ha ha ha) in london though. terroranschläge aside.

Me confused. It's Friday and my brain's not working. Friends of Live Earth or just Live Earth? Is this different from what Gen and Katrina posted about?

Live Earth concert at the Chinese Tower, Saturday 7.Jul.2007 on the big screen

Concert: Live Earth for action on climate change, Saturday 7.Jul.2007 - now AOL Hamburg not Berlin

Anyway, I'd planned on being at the Chinese Tower on Saturday afternoon to watch whatever it is.
Katrina
No GG, I posted about the Hamburg event which is an actual LE concert, the other threads refer to public viewing so yeah a merge could be done if the mods saw fit.

"Friends of Live Earth" is a name for public viewing events such as the one at the Chinese Tower, Munich and also for the witness reporters (woot).

The public viewing events will be using a live stream, which is also viewable via MSN.

Pro7 will also be broadcasting live from the concerts between 5-8:30pm and from 11:15pm-3am. N24 also will have coverage apart from when Pro7 is broadcasting from the concerts.
N24 coverage starts 3am with pictures from Australia, then accompanies the broadcast with N24 news from 5am, only not showing the concerts when Pro7 is.

BBC1 & BB2 will be showing it in alternating blocks if you get that and will not have advertising breaks.

Thanks for clarifying Katrina! So at least now I know what it is I'll be looking at on Saturday. Unless of course I have a few too many Maß which is entirely possible.
Katrina
And if you get too hammered, N24 will be showing highlights on the Sunday: 9:05am-11am and 12:05pm-2pm.

This sounds cool. Any info as regards some sort of schedule/list of bands to be broadcast at the Chinese Tower?
leeza
I am definitely going to the concert screening at the English Gardens. If anyone else is going, do you want to figure out a way to meet up?
Katrina
NME.com has this running order for the UK.
Gen
The one in the Chinese Tower seems to be the broadcast of what's in London. Complete list of bands here: http://liveearth.msn.com/concerts/UK

Edit: Katrina's link's better. Oh well. smile.gif
Katrina
James Blunt on after Mettalica and Spinal Tap? Someone really really really hates him.
Katrina
This is a really good chance to hear bands that are big in their respective countries but not elsewhere.
After Wolfmother's performance on the Sydney stage, I'll certainly be looking them up on iTunes. Also enjoyed Eskimo Joe.

Jack Johnson on now, loved his LedZep cover. He also is excited to see Crowded House - me too!

They are on next after Linkin Park with Peter Garrett from Midnight Oil!!!
jamie
Man, I thought for some reason this was on Sunday! Thanks for the heads up! I'm not missing Metallica yet again.
Katrina
N24 coverage is about as good as DSF showing the last Rugby World Cup (i.e. utter utter utter crap).
No we don't want your studio yakking, no we don't want the crap translations from someone who has no idea of idioms, we want to see the sodding bands!

Thank Jebus for live streaming.

PS Weren't CH glorious?

PPS what the fuck is this Japanese porno Spice Girls bizarro fetish monstrosity? Or am I still pissed?

I watched most of the Wembley gig through MSN. What a pile of utter krrrrrrrrrap! At one point some c-list actress came on to introduce Al Gore from the States and lecture everyone on how changing lightbulbs saves enough C02 to fill the stadium 400 times or some other patronizing moralistic shite. Then the link to Gore was delayed and the true face of Live Earth was revealed. This actress was standing there in front of 60,000 people with absolutely nothing to say, she hadn't a clue. Started rambling about how sexy George Clooney looks driving a Smart car and how her breasts where real, finally resorting to telling, no shit, knock-knock jokes. David Brent would have cringed.
On the plus side Metallica and Spinal Tap were cool. But over all a pointless waste of time and energy.
BadDoggie
Absolute hypocrisy. The event alone generated over 3,000 tonnes of CO2. The performers flew a total of around a quarter million miles, mostly in private jets. Low estimates of only 1kg of trash per concert-goer means that Wembley alone has around 59 tonnes of garbage to deal with. And the toilets, and the lighting, and the sound... Bon Jovi flew (in a private jet, natch) back to the US during a European tour be in New Jersey. Sarah Brightman flew to China (also private jet).

With friends like these, who needs enemies?

woof.
berny
actually over 30,000 tonnes of CO2.

ohmy.gif

one quote "like organising a hog roast to promote vegetarianism..."
leeza
Some would say that the benefits of reaching 2 billion people to raise awareness in this area would offset the CO2 cost to the environment.

But I do agree that the celebs should be better examples, at least for this one day. Missy Etheridge has completely embraced the cause and converted her house to be carbon-neutral and doesn't use a private jet anymore. I think that is cool. Practice what you preach, and all that.

You're right. I missed a 0... and they missed the point.
