What's your budget? We were at the Ibis very close to Central Station, €100-odd with a very good breakfast, close to all the streetcar lines. Cool as the entire wall towards the city is glass so you have a panoramic view. So does everyone looking up at you.

Chicago, when I was in the Dresden region I stayed at a great ferienwohnung outside of the city in the Elbe valley and for 50 Euros per night we had a small house. My 'puter has been reimaged so I can't find the link to the site for the ferienwohnung but it was beautiful. We also visited the Bastei region which is very close about 45 minutes to an hour by car from Dresden and here's a link with some pics. The beauty of this region is awesome.

The Bastei is part of the
Sächsische Schweiz. Highly recommend for hiking and climbing. If you're poor and don't own a car, from Dresden you can hop on a train or take a boat along the Elbe.
Sächsische Schweiz is near the Czech border so you can skip across the border for lashings of Bud (mandatory), goulash served with dumplings (mandatory) and cheap sex (optional).

Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel in Dresden thats close to the Hauptbahnhof (within walking distance)?
There's the Mecure and the 3 Ibis hotels there but was wondering if there was anything cheaper close by.
Cheers

I have never been, but stayed at the A&O in Prague and it was decent... its 400m from HBF

You could stay in Mond Palaste in Neustadt and just walk or take the tram to Haupt Bahnhof.

Try the CityHerberge just off Pirnaischer Platz... it has hostel and hotel rooms. I've stayed there myself and it's nice enough.
And needless to stay, it's the most affordable accommodation (apart from A&O hostel, which also has hotel rooms) that you'll find in the Altstadt area, unless you try a Pension. However, with a Pension I'd say you'd be taking a bigger risk, as in, not knowing what standard is being offered...

Hi All,
Im moving down to Dresden on the 16th and need a place to stay for about 5nights. Does anyone know where on the internet i can find rooms for short term renting or are hostels usually the cheaper option?
thanks

If it's only for 5 nights then yes, you're probably better off or it will be easier to organise a hostel.
