Hi All,

Does anyone out here have any idea where one can buy (preferably) fresh edamame beans in Munich? they are also known as green soybeans...

Thanks in advance,

Deepti

PS: on second thoughts, info on frozen edamame is also welcome!

Normally there is nothing vegetable/fruitwise you can't get on Viktualienmarkt.

good asian shops have those.

Asian food shops / Indian grocery stores

The only place I ever found them in Munich was in the freezer section in Asian markets.

Go to Rosenheimerplatz, get out of the S-Bahn at the front of the train in the outbound direction. Get out at Weißenburger Str. where the theatre is. Facing the theater, you want to go to the right down Rosenheimerstr. towards Hit/Aldi/Reno and the rest of those stores in an underground mall. Along the street are a couple Asian grocery stores and in the upper (street level) of the "mall" is yet another Asian market. They all have edamame.

To serve edamame properly you need kosher salt which I haven't found here yet. When cooking them, the water needs to be about double the saltiness of seawater (plain old table salt is fine for cooking). These are the two things most places get wrong.

The asian store on Hohenzollernplatz certainly has it - frozen section. The lady is really helpful and you could even ask her if she gets fresh ones. She has a bunch of veggies from South and South east Asia & very fresh.

Excellent News! I am going to get some asap.

Get mine at Hohenzollernplatz too, it is a great shop, and use Maldon salt instead of Kosher as it is very similar in texture.

I get them either in the Asian shop on Rosenheimer Str (next to Motorama) or at Mikado on Färbergraben. Always frozen - never seen them fresh.
