Job terminated, how long can non-EU'er job search? - Germany

Hi everyone.
Today, i was given my notice. Which in my contract is a month. They then told me to go home, cause the rest of the time till the end of next month, i will be on holiday.
Fine.
Question is for me now:
I am from Australia (a non-eu country). I have an Aufenthaltserlaubnis, which allowed me to work in germany for 3 years (while working for this company i was working for).
I no longer work for this company, which means that soon, i expect, i shall have to get out of the country.

How long after loss of job do i have to look for a new one?
And will it mean for this new potential company that they have to go through all the same business about proving that they need me, and another german couldnt do it (which my last company did to employ me... you know... the 'need a native speaker' or that kind of thing).

My details:
Industry: I.T
Reason for getting the sack: Company not making enough money. Restructuring. (i was not the only one to be let go).

anyone got an idea??? Or even better, can point me to the official document that has these details in print?

I would contact the Ausländeramt immediately and ask for an extension by way of Fiktionsbescheinigung. It should allow you at least another month to figure out your job situation. Your employer should put in writing why you were terminated, i.e., that you did not quit.

How long have you been in Germany? Is your company name printed on your visa?

I'm not sure if this applies to non-EU citizens, somebody will doubtless cast some light here, but you're obliged to register with the Arbeitsamt as soon as you are informed of your dismissal.

As a non-EU citizen registering as unemployed is not such a good idea, so I've been told, as it means you have effectively 4 weeks to get your bags, empty your apt and be out of the country.

Find another job quick like.

minga, i have been in germany since april 2006, started work september 2006, have past my 6 month probezeit, and ... now this.

I assume you have the 2 page visa - one Aufenthaltserlaubnis valid until September 2009, and a work permit that ties into your (now ex) employer and allows you to work for that company until that date.

That means that you should be allowed to stay in Germany until Sept 2009 and if you've been paying into the Arbeitslosenversicherung, you should be able to get unemployment benefits.

I was unemployed for a few months at the beginning of 2003 and claimed unemployment benefits at the time. The only difference was that work permits were not tied to your employer at that time.

I would suggest you speak to someone at the Arbeitsamt - You can pretend you are still employed, but things are looking shaky. That way, they will give you the advice without any consequences if you would actually have to leave the country.

Unfortunately for you, if you do get another job offer, you will have to go through the same painful process of getting a new work permit - which involves proving no German can do your job.

Went to the Arbeitsamt and Auslaenderamt this morning (before i read your post).
What you said is exactly correct.
I have the two page visa (wish i wasnt tied to the employer damit)
I can stay till 2009.

yes, so, that was what i wanted to know. Things are not so bad. But you are right, i once again have to get a company to tell the state why the need me over any available germans. A Pain.
We shall see if i get the unemployment benefits...

You get unemployement pay from the first date you go down to the Arbietsamt and start the paperwork. NOT the date you were laid off. So the sooner the better, if you are planning on going that route... plus, the paper work is unbelieveable and can take 4-12 weeks until you actually see any money.
Oh and the people there are as friendly as they are at the KRV. Fun, fun.

No worries - but as Strawberrystar already advised, go and register as unemployed. The paperwork is a hassle, but if you've been paying into the system for a while, you will get good benefits and it's worth it.

Hi everybody,

I came to germany on student visa for M.Sc. and after that I worked for 16 months. Although I am having unlimited job contract and confirmation letter after first 6 months probation, I got laid of in end of May, and I worked till end of June-2007 as I had one month notice period. Now i am not having job and appliyng for new job. I have visa till March 2009 but one workpermit stamp my company name is mentioned and when i went to arbeitsamt to register as un-employed and they entered the data but after seeing my pass they ask me to get a new arbeitsarlaubnis (work permit) from local Visa office.

Now I am thinking not to go to employment office again and simply stay here untill i will get a new job contract (I will wait max. 2-3 months.). I already got a cancellation letter from my Insurance company.

1. Will it be problem when i will get a new job and apply for new workpermit as i have not registered in employment office.
2. What should i do for Health insurance.?
