Hi All,

I had done a few bike tours around Munich referring the book '10 Schönes Radtour rund München'. This book is in German and I found it very difficult at times for directions and understanding the text. I am looking for some suggestions for mountain bike tours in the Alps. The book should preferably be in english and the tour should ideally be 1 day or 2 day tour(weekend). Is Garmish a nice place to bike? Please be kind enough to suggest new ideas too.. Thanks in advance
jeremy
The tour guides we use ar ecalled Moser Bike guides. I am afraid however they are in German.

I checked the 'Moser Bike guides' but it is tough to understand sad.gif

I use Moser guides too. Very, very good they are. You actually don't need all that much German to understand the directions as they are quite repetitive (turns, crossings, roads, distances etc.).

Moser guides are best to get you started and acquainted with the different areas. If you see any in the shops then buy them, 'cos they seem to be in limited numbers, with some bands, such as Tegernsee, already sold out. I use the guides and never read the description, just look at the maps, the distance/ascent/kondition & fahrtechnik info. Moser is usually spot on with the Rast/Beer stop points.

There's a HUGE amount of fine mountain biking close to Munich, with the closest at Tegernsee or around Lenggries. At Tegernsee you've got Aueralm, Neureuth, Wallberg. This'll get you started. Sptizingsee to Rotwandhaus is also nice. Use the guides to get started, then start scouting your own trails.

Further away you have Chiemsee, Karwendel, Garmisch, and these areas are nice, too. Karwendel is one of my favourites. To answer your original question, yes, Garmsich area is stunning - go and do the Reintal tour (#30, Moser band 2). I don't know what your standard of biking is, but if you're up for something a little harder then there's also the Heimgarten to Ohlstadt trail, which is also close to Garmisch.

Have fun.
