No-fee apartments in Frankfurt

How to avoid steep estate agency commission fees

I have found temporary housing, but will need to secure a permanent place ASAP. Does anyone know of fee-free apartment listings in Frankfurt? Seems like the going rate for fees is 2 months rent! Seems steep.

hello,

a good start would be the "Frankfurter Runschau" newspaper on Friday afternoons. Many of the apartment advertised for rent are by private owners, so you skip the 2 (or even 2 1/2) months commission which is imho very high.
There is an online version as well (fr-aktuelle.de, then search Immobilien)

Another option is to go direct to the companies that build and rent, for example faag
http://www.faag.de/wohnen.html

good luck!

Thank you! Forgot to add: ideally looking to rent month to month...does this really exist in Frankfurt? My initial contract is for 6 months, and I have housing for one already...

If it's for 5-6 months only then you are still looking for short-term accommodation (presumably furnished) and not something "permanent". AFAIK, if you rent a furnished flat from an agency on a short-term basis you don't have to pay a fee, only deposit ("Kaution").

There is a very good chance we will be in Frankfurt longer, and I don't mind signing a year lease...but as long as it can be broken with notice.

The place I found a temp aprt (furnished) charges a huge fee (45% for two months and up).

I have a two room apartment for rent. Commission free. See Apartment for rent in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen
We are moving out in August, and is available from 1st of September.

We rent from FAAG which CB has already linked. There are a couple of apartments available in our apartment block for immediate occupancy which are probably similar to our apt.

Our contract isn't fixed, we just had to give 3 months notice to quit. The notice is takes effect from the end of the current calendar month. Say you write the company/landlord with your 3 months notice on the 5th of May, the notice starts from the end of the May, so you are free then by the end of September. If you can get someone to take over during your notice period too, if 3 months is too long. But you'd be lucky.

You will probably have to install a kitchen or buy from a previous tenant. Apartments are really unfurnished. Not even light fittings included.
jdiliberto
Thank you! Do you have any photos of your place? 1st of Sept would work well.

jdiliberto, I'll PM a link to the photos tonight or tomorrow. I have to take the photos first.
