I will be moving to Frankfurt in July and would like to hook up with fellow cyclists (both road and mountain.) Does anyone know of any established groups in the area? Alternatively if you are keen to start a group please can you let me know.

I do not know of any groups in Frankfurt however my boyfriend and I will be no doubt interested in one...

There is some sort of group in Darmstadt attached to ESA I believe.

I suggest you go to the BDR site and look over the list of local German teams. I have been a member of the local Aschaffenburger team for 25 years and we have a lot of fun. The training is top notch, and we go to the TDF every year to ride (there right now ). The BDR is the governing body for all cycling team/clubs in Germany, and it keeps track of all your rides and your KM's/points for the year. At the end of the year you and your club gets a medal. Any questions??? Just PM me.

Hi, I am very interested in hooking up for a ride particularly after work or weekends--Either mountain biking or road. The Taunus are close, s-bahn accessible and great not-too-technical trails (at least those I have done). I am not hard-core but used to ride a fair amount in Seattle before moving here.

Access to trails here is pretty spectacular.
Other than training teams, I know there are club rides through the ADFC a few times a week but I have never done them www.adfc-hessen.de . They also have excellent maps for sale. I would consider going on one of these to get the lay of the land, but have been intimidated due to language factor. They seem to vary in distance, and sometimes you have to be a member, other times just pay a small fee.

Please contact me if you want to set something up.

Ok well I am still interested in setting something up. Only problem at the moment is my boyfriend has torn a ligament in his shoulder whilst mountain biking in France leaving him out of action at the moment. So I cannot make this weekend but maybe in a few weeks time?

Hello! I am new to Toytown, have been living outside of Frankfurt for the past few years and have just moved to the city. Am keen on biking, and would love to get out with some people to do this. I noticed the discussion (which was, ok, a year ago!) ... has anyone since then discovered / or does anyone know of any biking "clubs" or groups in the area, that one could just tag along with? If so, would love to hear from you ... and if not, great to hear from you anyway!

There are numerous cycling clubs in and around Frankfurt. I have ended up hooking up with the Frankfurt International Cycling Club http://ficc.blogspot.com It consists of riders from Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Germany and South Africa.

It was a great move making contact with them not only for finding "riding buddies" but also as a source of sources regarding RTFs, Jedermann races, routes etc. In need also please feel free to PM me.

Myself and my German colleague take to the roads regularly on Sunday morning's (early 8ish ;o)). It is very handy because he is an experienced rider and knows that routes/towns very well. Our trips usually last until late afternoon and we on average cover about 80-100km in total (both uphill/downhill and also on road and through forest) and then have a beer and dinner in the city after. To give you an example of our trips we cycled from the city to Kelkheim and then the Mainz last week an then onto Wiesbaden (80km) and are currently planning a trip to the Feltburg! We do travel at a fast-ish pace (19-20km average) so be warned!! Anyway, we would have no problem with more people wanting to join us. PM me if you are interested.

I regularly ride RTFs which is basically a German version of Audaxes. You turn up, pay three Euros (5 if you are not a member of a cycling club) and follow the route which has been all set out. Easy and there are feed stations as well.

Link to the one next Sunday: http://www.rv-sossenheim.de/html/radtourenfahrt.html. If I manage to get rid of my cold, I will prob do the 117k one, there are 40k and 70k options as well, the longer route is then just an additional loop. The longer routes tend to get ridden faster, you would probably find a few slower riders on the 40k. (I am not fast, I just try to beat the cut off time...)

If anyone is up for this, let me know.
Gidz
From what I've heard the RTF on Sunday is very good and well organised and the fact that it starts in Frankfurt also is an advantage. I will probably do it - still debating what distance but for the same reasons mentioned above I am inclined to do the 117km.
