Presh, the evening starts with a class (hour and a half) and then a couple of hours 'freestyle' practice. I often go myself.

Hey, any single guys out there get to it because it is a wonderful way to meet women! I used to do it before I met my wife. The girls often have trouble getting men to come along.

I don't know what it'll be like when this season starts up again, but for info: the group used to be completely mixed as far as sexes and ages were concerned. Also, approximately one third were English-speakers, one-third were German-speakers and the remaining third were mostly French with a few strays and oddities thrown in for good luck.

Or do I mean we're only expecting short men?

@ Bee - I don't think we scared all the guys of 'cos most of them were 'old hands' anyway. Tuesday hasn't started yet... doesn't start until the end of the month!
@ parnell - The guys got to take a break and sit out for a short rest/drink, but the girls were stuck on the dance floor all night!!

Is there a block of instruction before every session or just the first one in the series?
I give new meaning to the phrase "White Guys Can't Dance".
koala
Apr 1 2004, 1:26 pm
The lesson is before every session. The 'lesson' is the basic step followed by four or five 'moves'. The moves taught change each time and are repeated at random (I'm sure Joe has a system - but I wouldn't like to guess what it is) so by the time you've been to half a dozen classes you've easily got a collection of twenty moves. All you have to do is remember them all!
So can we count you in for tonight then?
jivedancer
Apr 3 2004, 12:31 pm
We do include a lesson at the start of each evening. The lesson usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes and comprises 4 or 5 simple moves. The moves are selected to form a simple routine and to ensure that no moves are taught too often or too little. In this manner complete beginners can learn the dance in a short period of time.
Hope to see you on the dance floor!

However, I added my tuppence-worth to this chat because one of the many reasons to come Jive Dancing is indeed to meet members of the opposite sex. Not the only reason, not the most important reason, but certainly one of the reasons. To say otherwise would be to deny the obvious.
I look forward to seeing you join us one evening for some dancing.

And the party continues...
For the second time Munich Lindy Hoppers invite people from all over the world to celebrate LindyHop in the bavarian capital: Thursday, 16th - Sunday, 19th of September.
We will try to even top our last year success with more people, more dancing, more fun ...and of course ...more truly bavarian highlights

)
Time is running and we are in the middle of planning this year's events for the Munich Lindy Exchange. So stay tuned and make sure that you save a slot in your personal Lindy Hop Calendar for Munich Lindy Exchange 2004.
To us the most important thing - also this year - is to meet more new people and maintain our "old/new" friendships. So check in, swing out and register now: www.lindyexchange.de. We are looking forward to having you here!!

Lindy Hop is also known as Swing Dance or Jitterbug. You've probably seen it if you've seen any of the films Swing Kids, The Mask, Memphis Belle or Malcom X (among many others). Rock'n'roll dancing, boogie-woogie and Jive are all simplified versions of Lindy Hop, and many people who dance one style also dance the others.
There's a good short history at:
http://www.MunichJive.com/TheOriginsOfModernJive.htmlAlso check out:
http://www.boogie-baeren.de/The Boogie Bears are Munich's premier Lindy Hop dance club.
The music is also great. Current 'Swing' bands include The Brian Setzer Orchestra, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Indigo Swing and The Royal Crown Revue, among others. Swing/Rock'n'Roll bands include The Stray Cats (also featuring Brian Setzer) and the current chart topping Dick Brave & The Backbeats.

Not Salsa, but our Jive classes are along the same lines. (Simple dance instruction, no need to bring a partner, chance to meet lots of members of the opposite sex, lots of time afterwards to practise).

I can add my recommendation to these classes! OK, so I don't dance myself. But I've been twice to act as an "escort". She dances. I sit back, drink a Weissbier, and admire the moves. Joe's a great teacher. I've seen him get even the clusiest of double left-footers achieving some complex moves. He's been Jiving and teaching for over 12 years in many different cities, including in London's West End.
Turn up to the class on your own, or with a friend or two. Whichever, you'll be made to feel very welcome by him and Marianna. You'll almost instantly be dancing with 10, 20, or more other people in quick rotation.
If you're not into dancing at all, don't bother. But if you are vaguely interested in giving it a go with some proper lessons, highly recommended from me!

Hi All
By popular demand we are announcing another of our popular Jive Dance Workshops:
http://www.MunichJive.com/BeginnersWorkshop.htmlWhere: Lacant Night Club
When: Saturday 3rd July 14:00-17:00
Cost: ONLY 20 Euro per person (20 places only, so book early!)
**********************************************
This is a Beginners Workshop for those who have never danced Modern Jive before and would like to get upto speed quickly or those who have already attended one or two evenings of Jive Dancing and can't wait to improve!
And don't worry if you don't have a partner, as we will ensure that there are equal numbers of boys and girls and that we mix everyone up so that all the boys dance with all the girls (and vice-versa)
**********************************************
The aim of the workshop is to teach the technique and styling points of the
following basic figures
Arm Jive
First Move
Catapult
Yo-Yo
Hatchback
Neckbreak
Comb
American Spin
The workshop will also cover technique of leading (for the men) and following
(for the ladies).
**********************************************
To ensure the best quality of teaching, this workshop will be restricted to
20 persons.
So, if you would like to attend, send me an e-mail to reserve your place as
soon as possible.

Hi Guys
Jiving at Lacant night club just got even better!
We've finally convinced the manager to drop his bar prices on jive dance evenings. Now you can enjoy beer and non-alcoholic drinks at normal bar prices instead of sky high night club prices.
AND... We've also convinced him to drop the entry price on the door to only 6 Euro (was 8 Euro)
[perhaps Thursday evening at Lacant has just become the best chance to enjoy an inexpensive club night out in Munich with no naff music guaranteed... I promise

]
Check out all the details here:
http://www.MunichJive.com/LaCant.htmlAND... We're now running regular dance workshops for Jive, Salsa and Lindy Hop. Check out the details here:

What we do is not entirely dis-similar to swinging. You get to spend some time with every girl

on the dance floor.
What you get up to during that time is your own business

but I can say that we've started more relationships through our jive evenings than anything else.
I've said it before but our jive classes are really just Speed Dating on a dance floor.

Most of these 'girls' are in their 20s or 30s.
Check out the Gallery 'Jive (Ceroc) Dancing in Munich, Germany' here in Toytown (Gallery link directly below) to see recent photos of some of the boys and girls who regularly attend.
Or check out the galleries at:
http://www.munichjive.com/MunichJivePhotos3.htmlOur youngest regular attendee is (I think) 20, possibly she's younger. Most of our jivers are in their 20s and 30s. We do have a few older than this.

Want some free Champagne?
If you bring a 'Birthday' crowd (10 or more) to Lacant on a Tuesday night then a complimentary bottle of bubbly will be presented to the 'Birthday' boy/girl.
And... everyone gets in half price (i.e. only 3 Euros)
And... Drinks prices on a Tuesday night are already reduced to normal bar prices rather than night club prices.
And... The Tuesday night crowd at Lacant is mostly English speaking.
And... The DJs are English speaking and don't play any naff music (i.e. No Chirppy Chirppy Cheep Cheep Guaranteed!)
So what are you waiting for?

Hi all
We continue to generate lots of interest in Ceroc (Salsa/Jive) dancing in Munich @ Lacant
http://www.MunichJive.com/LaCant.html with a regular Thursday night crowd of 30+ of which, typically, 5 or 6 new people turning up every week, which is excellent.
At the same time we're getting new members joining the MunichJive mailing list
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MunichJive at a rate of 10+ per month, which is also very good.
In recent weeks we've been visited by dancers from the USA, New Zealand, Stuttgart, Vienna, Paris and London
http://www.ceroclondon.com/ We've also been asked by Ceroc Australia
http://www.cerocaustralia.com.au/ to participate in a video they're putting together showing the best Ceroc teaching around the world. The word is certainly spreading.
I look forward to seeing some more Toytowners joining us on a Thursday evening to see what this Ceroc thing is all about.

Schwabing on Thursday evening?
http://www.MunichJive.com/LaCant.html We have our Ceroc evenings there on Thursday from 19:30 and then its dancing all night from then on.
If you bring a crowd of more than 10 persons then you all get in for 3 Euros AND there is a complimentary bottle of Champagne for the Birthday boy.
The Thursday night crowd there is mostly English speaking
AND... The DJs are English speaking and play only the best dance music (No german rubbish at all)

I will be 'celebrating' 30th birthday next month. And as is the custom of my culture, I am left with the unhappy business of organizing a social gathering to mark the event.
I want to rent a (reasonably priced) location somewhere within city limits which would allow me and my invited guests (25 or so) to dance, drink, play music, dj and pretty much party like jesus till whenever we damn well please (well till 4 or so anyway..ahem.)
Has anyone any good suggestions?!
And... I thought I made a reasonable suggestion to answer his query. I did not suggest that mos bring his crowd to a dance lesson, merely that he might consider the chance to have use of a great
Schwabing Night Club for 3 Euros per head (pretty damm good value in my humble opion).
The club could certainly accomodate 25+ of his guests. His guests would certainly be able to dance, drink, play music and pretty much party... till whenever [they] please[d].
All in all I think my posting is entirely reasonable. If it is not to mos's liking then fine, but the offer is there for him to consider.
